Mrs. Poodle's Picture
Mrs. Poodle, Santiago, Chile/San Bernardino, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Industrial & Web Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Firefighter & Mountain Patrol Engagement Date: February 25, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Mr. P's Grandparents’ Ranch About Me: I’m a Chilean girl who's crazy about nature and swimming. I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.
About Mrs. Poodle

Oh, wait! That’s not possible, because as some of you know, we are not using any fresh flowers. The original plan for the bouquets was to make them all out of clay flowers, and even though I made a bunch of them back home in Chile, there were not enough for my bouquet, plus my 4 bridesmaids’ bouquets.

So, while making the pomander for my flower girl, I ran into a color problem. I could not find tissue paper in the color I wanted, but what I actually found were paper napkins in the exact color I wanted! So I made napkin flowers instead!

I found out that paper flowers were was faster to make and filled out our bouquets just as much as the clay flowers did. So, I ditched some of the clay flowers I experimented with and just kept the roses. I mixed those with the napkin flowers, plus some tissue paper flowers and some silk ones, and this is what I ended up with!

Here’s my clay rose tutorial, in case you want to try to make them!

For my bridesmaids’ bouquets I stuck with just with tissue paper, napkins and silk.

Here is how they turned out:

To make all the flowers I used in the bouquets I only used 1 pack of 50 napkins, and it cost me $1.20, so I was pretty happy about that!

Here are the materials I used:

  • 1 pack of purple napkins
  • floral wire
  • floral tape
  • thicker wire
  • silk leaves
  • hot glue

I first cut the napkin in half, then I folded it again to make a long piece. After that I folded it in little pieces and cut the ends… the final result of that step is the picture on the left. After that I rolled both pieces together to make one flower. (Since you end up cutting the napkin in 4 strips, you get 2 pieces per flower.)

Once they were ready, I wrapped a little piece of floral wire around them to hold them together. Then I grabbed a long piece of thicker wire and hot glued it to the flower, like in the left image. Then I attached a silk leaf, like in the right image.

If you do that a few more times, you will end up with this:

Now, here are a few more pics of my bouquet!

[All pictures by yours truly]

I really like the way it ended up looking, but I was worried I will regret it later, because I really wanted to make them all out of clay. I chose this route because I have so many DIY projects left to finish, so time is of the essence right now!

You did not seriously use PAPER NAPKINS for your flowers! They look SO amazing! WOW.
Do you plan on “preserving” them after?

I love how the napkin flowers turned out and they almost look a bit textured. So clever of you!

good idea, but be careful, if the napkins get wet, often the intense colors can run onto fabric, and you wouldnt want to ruin your dress. maybe do a test piece to make sure.

Beautiful flowers!
I was worried about your family too because of the earthquake, are they ok? Do you know if the area where Mrs. Bearcub lives is ok?
