Mrs. Parfait, Chicago Age and Occupation: 26, Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Senior Online Consultant Engagement Date: February 14, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: Signature Events About Me: I have a soft spot for all things sweet and romantic. Desserts, love songs, sappy movies? Yes, yes, and ohh yes. My fiance and I enjoy singing to our dogs, creating crazy ice cream sundaes, and generally being lovey dovey cuddle bunnies. We also do socially acceptable things like dancing, throwing Frisbees, playing high stakes board games, and taking unreasonably fun road-trips. We're planning a Korean/Serbian wedding with plenty of playful, personal touches!
About Mrs. Parfait

Just months ago, Mr. Parfait and I figured we would pass up on the whole wedding registry thing. We weren’t sure if our old-school Korean/Serbian families even knew about registries, and we didn’t have a place of our own to furnish anyway. Well, friends, all that has drastically changed.

I am a registry machine!

Heehee. You see, after being hounded by our relatives (who have apparently been to enough American-style weddings to know all about this stuff) and settling into our lovely-but-empty condo, we decided to set up registries at Macy’s and Crate and Barrel. It was slow-going at first, but after being in a few locations of each store and checking out the online process, I got totally hooked! Look how much fun we had at Macy’s recently:

We attended one of their registry event nights, so they had snacks and drinks prepared for us.

We sat down with a registry consultant to learn how to use the scanner and where to find everything. When we got up, I went straight for the china! My mom had given me a piece of advice before we started: “Choose whatever you think is pretty.” So I chose the prettiest one—Ballet Icing Pearl by Waterford. It reminds me of cake frosting. :)

And the matching glasses were just as lovely!

Mr. Parfait was the practical decision-maker, while I flailed my hands around and chattered about how we might be dooming ourselves to a lifetime of too-soft pillows. I guess that’s why he got to hold the scanner the whole time.

The KitchenAid stand mixers had their own glorious section of the store with all the different models, colors, and attachments on display! I had always planned on having my own bright, cheery mixer someday. However, when we got to the display, this glittery black model stole my heart. I take terrible pictures, so you’ll have to trust that it looks better in person.

After an hour or two of frazzled, doubtful decision-making (me) and happy-go-lucky scanning (Mr. Parfait), we left the store with some parting gifts: a tote bag, two large wine glasses, and a Lush bath bomb!

Did you always plan to register? Were you more of the overly-anxious worrier during the registry process or the practical decision-maker?

@jennybirdy:
They have them in STL. I remember when i talked to macy’s at a wedding show they started telling me dates for their parties. You can probably just call your local store and they will let you know. Crate and barrel also has these parties too. So does pottery barn.

My FI and I have been together for almost six years, have lived together for almost five and own our home. We have everything plus. SO, like @Curlysue, I feel we could get BETTER and NICER everything, but instead we decided to register for our honeymoon at Traveler’s Joy http://www.travelersjoy.com/. Anyone else done this? How did it work out for your shower?

Registering at Macys was fun - but I’m jealous you got a bath bomb! We just got the wine glasses (which are very nice but quite large. I always feel I’m holding a soup bowl when I use them!).
Other than a loud DJ, the registry event was fun, and I enjoyed learning more about the products before registering. We even got a free set of measuring spoons just for registering for the KitchenAid mixer! (our wedding isn’t until July, but the STDs went out in Feb, and someone already bought and sent the mixer!!! yay!!!! And of course I had to break it in already.)

OOh we did a registry, but on a random weekend. But now that you’re showing all this good food, I think we’re going to have to go back and update our registry. :)

We didn’t register when we got married. We went against etiquette and erected a MONEY TREE. We were already married civilly so we didn’t really need anything.

These events look like so much fun! I kind of wish we’d gone to one instead of only registering online!

We had a great time registering, though for sanity’s sake we kept it almost entirely an online process. I wanted to go to one of those fancy events but we would have had to wait another month for the one at our nearest Macy’s and I really wanted to get this done.

@jennybirdy: Hey, girl! We started our registry online, so I got emails about their registry events in February. I RSVP-ed to be extra sure we would get our gift. ;)

@Stesse: I know, they’re crazy-big! OOoh, lucky you and your Kitchenaid mixer~

@Bob Valdez: I like the sound of “Money Tree”…I think our house needs one of those. : )

@Miss Frozen Yogurt: Aww fanx, Froyo!

@Miss Pretzel: Yeah, I always edit after I’ve been scanning things in a store—I’m drawn to the strangest things and have immediate buyer’s remorse (scanners remorse?)!

@ColorCoated: You are too cute–I’m sure you’ll have a blast!
