Pintuck Perfection

March 2nd, 2010 @ 6:05 pm by Mrs. Buttons

Remember when I was head over heels in love with pintuck linens? And, after receiving a price quote for rentals, I was slightly brokenhearted.

Well, I am brokenhearted no longer!

When I found out that I would have to shell out $35 a piece for the linens, the little gears in my head began to turn… surely there would be a more inexpensive option… could I buy some? Could I make them myself? I took a trip to Jo-Ann Fabrics to investigate their fabric selection.

Bingo! I came across a fabric that was very similar in color and texture to the sample that the linen company gave me…AND it was very affordable (with a coupon, only about $2.00 a yard). I had a small swatch cut, which I then sent to… Grandma Buttons! Why hadn’t I thought about this before? Grandma Buttons is a wonderful seamstress (is that the proper title?), and I knew that she’d be able to help me out. Sure enough, she had some good news! After receiving the fabric sample, she tried out the pintuck and sent it to me!

Grandma Buttons’ sample is the large piece; the linen rental sample is in front… pretty nice match, wouldn’t you say?

Oh yes, this will do just wonderfully. Right now, the plan is to make the tablecloths with 4 inch square pintucks instead of the 2 inch ones that the sample came in. I think it will give the same visual impact on the tables, but will take Grandma Buttons much less time!

Grandma Buttons is going to complete a sample tablecloth and send it to me so that I can test it at our venue before we go into full production, but I cannot wait to see how this turns out!

Did you have a family member or friend that came out of the woodwork to help you with something?

Awesome for Grandma Buttons!

My mom is a whiz at coming up with ideas, and she’s done a few prototypes for me. I’m grateful she’s doing it!

I remember and I am so happy it is working out for you! I have an amazingly crafty friend who has made my jewelry, veil, and what would have been the spendier of centerpieces.

WOW $35 to rent them is expensive… here in southern california (San Diego) our quotes have been $12-$18 for pintucked plum linens (and plum has to be special ordered because most here don’t have the color yet). I have seen them that high ($25-$35) but thats been from catering companies etc who mark up the price. That’s wonderful that your grandma can make them, but to save her some of the work - you might want to shop around for other rental quotes.

My SIL is going to make my hairpiece for the reception. I am wearing a cathedral length veil for the ceremony so I am going to need something for the reception.

@Miss Hot Wings: Haha, she might not know what she got herself into! People might start banging down her door…

@lkbphmd: That is awesome!

@An: Yep, we did shop around, but for some reason linens here just are high…from what we found. And, she really wanted to help by doing this, so I am not overloading her with anything!
