A Gambling Fan?

March 3rd, 2010 @ 3:14 pm by Ms Potato Chips

A long time ago, we settled on the idea of ceremony program fans. Fans! Nothing says easy-breezy like some card stock glued to a Popsicle stick (that’s all I’d have to do, right?).

But here’s the problem (and here’s where you can thank me for that uproarious title). June in New England is unpredictable. Sometimes it’s just plain mean. It could be hot and sunny, but it could also be drizzly and raw and cold. Last summer I was still wearing a jacket in early July.

This is why we New Englanders are so curmudgeonly. Or maybe I’m just speaking for myself.

So on one hand, program fans could be as cute as they are utilitarian. Or they could end up being superfluous and even a bit silly.

What to do, what to do?

I love the fans, but as a fellow New Englander, I’d be unsure of what to do too!

We’re going with the fans with the generally unpredictable weather going on Nationwide. We figured that even if it’s rainy and gross, our guests can use them later at the reception to fan themselves from the raucus partying and dancing. ;)

Even though they’re fans, I don’t think it would be weird even if the weather turned bad. Plus FYI - before the Bee, I went to a wedding that had those and I had no idea they were meant to be fans. I just thought it was a cute new way to do a program. And that was an outside wedding which ended up drizzly.

I saw stick with the fans! They are cute and pretty easy. I guess if it drizzles hope they read the program before they use it to cover their noggins?!

Go with the fans. I am getting married in June in Maine and I am doing fans! They will still be super cute even if it isn’t super hot!

Do it! Worst case scenario, people don’t use them as fans. Then they just become really easy to carry pieces of paper. ;)

Maybe make giant fan programs so that if needed they can be umbrellas too :D I say if you want to make fans, make ‘em! Guests will understand the sentiment even if it happens to be cold that day!

The fans will be super valuable if it IS hot, and if it rains, people can use them a “hair do protection.” I think it’s a perfect idea!

I like the fans *because* I’m familiar with New England weather; it might be chilly, but if it is ungodly hot, as can happen, your guests will find the fans invaluable.

thanks for posting my fan design in your poll! (the bottom two photos) :) being from Newport, RI the weather can be a bit unpredictable but summer weddings can be pretty toasty! And, they aren’t extremely expensive. I’ve also designed fans for weddings in NYC. Good luck to all the brides!

Well, here’s the thing. If the weather is so bad that you can not use the fan. IE windy or rainy the ceremony would be indoors anyway right? Then you can still use the fan! =)

I think the fans are a great idea! They are can be used indoors or out and people will use them either way!

PS…where can you find templates for those shapes?!?! I’ve been looking everywhere for DIY ones!!!

As a New Englander, I say go for the fans! I’m doing them too for my July wedding. I cannot say no to them!

i also think you can get away with the fans regardless of the weather. however, if you want to be able to decide last minute, perhaps you could design the programs so that they could be used with or without the popsicle stick? that might cause a hiccup in the layout, though…

Worse case scenario, your guests could use the fans to shield their heads from the drizzle (I live in Boston, I know this fickle June weather you speak of!) :). Let’s just assume that the weather will not be as cold/rainy as last year - it isn’t possible! (right…?!)

I agree with Mrs Mouse, even if it rains, the fans will look cute in pictures!

I love the fan! It’s too cute! I’m going to use this idea for the beach wedding!
