Proposal Adventures

March 4th, 2010 @ 2:24 pm by Mrs. Starfish

After Mr. Starfish proposed, the real fun began—the pictures!

I happen to love pictures. I take way too many photos, and I’m known for my quick Facebook photo updates—as in they are up the next morning—before you are. I scrapbook. I stalk photo blogs. I’m pretty obsessed. I thinks it’s my obsession with capturing a memory of a second of time that you can never get back. With a photo you get to hold on to that moment forever. Some people are content with their memory, I on the other hand, am much more visual.

Surprisingly, after our proposal Mr. Starfish was the one to initiate “the photo shoot”. I was so caught up in my happiness that I didn’t really think to take pictures.

After some time basking in our newly fiancee’d status, the camera started clicking.

First came some photos of the ring…

Then some photos of us…

Then a Facebook special, in which Mr. Starfish tagged all of our coupled friends (Oh yes he did!)…

After the photo fun, came the mandatory calls. We actually didn’t do too many right away, just our parents and siblings. My family saw it coming, but his were a little surprised. This shocked me because the diamond he proposed with was the same diamond his father proposed to his mother with 30 years ago! He said they gave him the diamond, and he just never told them when he was officially doing it. So needless to say, my future mother in-law had the best reaction—she was speechless. I would be, too! I would have assumed he’d told her, but he said he only told my father prior to doing so to ask for his permission.

After the calls to family, we headed to our alma mater, Salve Regina University, to reminisce. We walked through campus stopping at all the places that hold special meaning to us, including Hunt Hall, which was our freshman dorm where we met.

Later in the evening, we had celebratory drinks on the deck at Bannister’s Wharf and made the rest of the calls. The woman at Bannister’s saw us sitting on the deck and told us we were about to miss a beautiful sunset and recommended we move to the deck on the other side. Gladly, we did. We saw the most beautiful sunset while calling all our closest family and friends to tell them the happy news.

Then… the next day was more Newport fun and of course, photo taking. We headed to an apple orchard in nearby Middletown, went for a ride on Ocean Drive and spent a little more time on the beach and at Salve. Perfect fall activities.

At the end of day two of our proposal adventure, we headed back home and were greeted by decorations, friends and family. It was absolutely perfect.

Awww, this is such a sweet story!
My only regret about my proposal is that we didn’t take photos, so good for Mr. Starfish for being on top of things!

Oh! And I love that ring balloon!

What a great memory to have! I was the same way- snapping pictures for two days, which I’m thankful to now have in an engagement scrapbook. :)

You are so good about the pics. I’m the same way. Unfortunately, we’re behind the camera so much that hubby and I don’t have any photos of us…and any that friends take, we’ll never see again. What do people do with all the photos they take if no one see them? Especially with the kids, I take so many photos to capture every moment, so I can remember when I’m old and can’t remember stuff. =p I do weekly albums on Picasa for family and friends afar. Keep it up! It’ll be great to look back at them later.

@ fancygirl…I need to get going on my scrapbook! I’ve been really bad about scrapbooking lately.

@ MOHmama I love that you do weekly albums, one of my friends does one monthly and I love getting it in my e-mail!

I’m exactly the same way about photos, I am so apt to forget the moment if I don’t see it again in a picture, so I snap like crazy during special times. I love that Mr. Starfish tagged all your friends in that Who’s Next photo, hilarious. How great to spend all that time together after the proposal basking in the glow! We had a fantastic weekend on cloud nine after our proposal as well, which we got to share with my family, since FI proposed at the beginning of my graduation weekend from my master’s program. It was amazing to spend those days together celebrating with him and my loved ones. So of course I took a billion photos!

You will be so glad that Mr. Starfish was on top of reminding you to take pictures! Both of our families were hiding while he proposed to me on a lake, and his sister took photos of the entire proposal. I am so glad I have those pictures and will always cherish them!

Newport is awesome isn’t it? We’re getting married there too in August. So exciting!

Where on Salve Regina campus is that photograph under the arch? Is that North South Hall?

What a beautiful setting! I’m still fairly new to the New England area and have yet to visit Newport. I cannot wait to visit sometime! You were so smart to take so many pictures- I’m sure you will cherish those for years to come.

@ Karen I do love Newport! Where are you getting married? The photo in front of the arch is in front of Ochrre Court, the admissions building.

@ Meredith Purdue, it really is an awesome place to visit. If you go you should check out the cliffwalk, it’s on one my favorite places and ocean drive!
