Mrs. Argyle's Picture
Mrs. Argyle, St. Louis Age and Occupation: 24, Project Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Pilot Engagement Date: February 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Jewel Box in Forest Park and Windows on Washington About Me: I'm a true Midwestern girl (born and raised), lover of red wine, reality TV and the entire J.Crew catalog. I love to dance regardless of who is watching, and enjoy a good laugh with my girls. I have a soft spot in my heart for planet Earth, my two dogs and my fiance. Fall is my favorite season (which is why we are marrying in September), but I love a warm summer day and the Colorado mountains in the winter. We are planning a modern soiree downtown, with lots of bold colors, and fun, eco-friendly elements.

Save the Dates Suck

March 5th, 2010 @ 11:56 am by Mrs. Argyle

What sucks was that I spent countless hours designing our Save the Dates. Countless, people. I’m a perfectionist, and so it took me about 15+ tries to design something that I was pretty happy with.

Design One: Bleh.

Save the Dates Suck : wedding save the dates Std1

Design Two: Update of design one. Do you see a trend here?

Save the Dates Suck : wedding save the dates Std2

Design Three: I decided to play off of a Frank Lloyd Wright wall stencil I found (the Mr. just loves the work of FLAW).

Save the Dates Suck : wedding save the dates Std3

I seriously have about 4 or 5 iterations of each of the above designs. I originally thought I wanted something edgy, but each time I designed something, the result was something more simple (hence why the three fairly art-deco-y designs above).

On top of that, I would spend endless amounts of time swooning over all of the save the dates I found online and from which I wished I could get inspired. So, what did I do? I walked away. For six months (wha??). Yeah, I totally forgot about them for six months, until we had our engagement photos taken, and I realized we should use one of those pretty little photos with our save the dates. Duh, Argyle.

How long did it take you to pick out or design your save the dates? (Hopefully not six months, like it took me.)

I’m pretty sure it’s going to take me forever to decide on STDs! It’s just sooo hard to make a decision!

Don’t scrap them yet! You might be able to incorporate one of your e-pics into your already made Save-The-Dates and it’ll save you some time.

Honestly though, I LOVE that first one!!! :)

It would have taken me FOREVER, but I ended up asking my photographer (who doubles as a graphic designer) to do them for me! So, I don’t have to agonize over it now, haha!

Go with your initial instinct - the first one was in the bag for me!

It took me so long to decide and to be honest I ended up never really making a true decision.

I reallyl ike the last one, but I like the idea of including your picture!

Turn one of those B’s around so they are mirror images. That would look so cool!! Keep them in the circle, I love that part. Then add in some of the FLW influence. Voila. I love what you’ve come up with so far!!

One of the things that I just ditched doing. I run out of time and I also needed to save money. It also gave us more time to finalize the guest list. Our engagement was only 10 and a half months. We may have lost a few people that I would have liked to have there, but I don’t think given the issues of why folks weren’t able to come that STD’s would have made a difference. I’ve never gotten an STD for a wedding. We did mail our invites out 10 weeks ahead of the wedding.

I knew what I wanted long before we were engaged (oops!). I loved Mrs. Cherry Pie’s std’s and did something very similar. We adhered an engagement photo to a slightly larger piece of cardstock, printed all our information on a velum over lay and tied them together with ribbon through a hole punch at top. then we added our own magnet strips to the back. I lvoe the way the came out and we got so many compliments. Plus, they were super cheap!

i love the idea of using a photo–gives the design an easy theme and lets you put those engagement pictures to work!

we talked about a theme after we got engaged, pretty random stuff, and after we returned from our trip (we were on the road for 4mths when he proposed), i used some nice pix of us (informal epix) and got started. it was done in a week. Phew!

@LindsayB: We, too loved the first one - it’s what inspired our final invitation design!

@amanda.lynn: I think I would have been more picky had I had someone else design them!

@alivoo01: Aw, thanks!

@Grey56: We tried that with the B’s, but weren’t 100% in love with it.

@toothfairyb: Yeah to spelling our name the correct way!

@Miss Pug: That’s ultimately what we did! Can’t wait to reveal them!

@mrspaetz: That is a great idea with your photo!

We decided on ours almost instantly but waited a few months to order them so that we had the appropriate details. We found a design on Zazzle that was EXACTLY what we wanted…so after about an hour of adjusting the wording we went for it and ordered them! They arrived yesterday and I’m thrilled! We’re saving the big design energies for the invitations.

It took me about 4 months! Don’t worry, you’re not the only indecisive one! I couldn’t even decide on my colors! I found an idea for my Save the Dates on Zazzle. I made the final design myself, but was nervous about Zazzle since I hadn’t used them before! BUT they turned out to be FABULOUS! And they included envelopes! NOW, with less than 90- days, I’m working on invites! WISH ME LUCK!

Your creations are beautiful. I, too, designed for months on end. It’s such a pain to be in charge of the design. The product is so rewarding though. Can’t wait to see what you ended up with.

We definitely went through some iterations with ours. The basic design only underwent one major change - we were going to do a simple magnet, until I realized how much prettier a paper card with a strip of magnet glued to the back would look - but there were a million tweaks as I kept getting inspired to include more elements and ideas. The final product was perfect and beautiful and sets the tone for our wedding brilliantly, and I’ve received many compliments on them, so it was work well spent!

Ha! Well, we were engaged for October 24, 2010, and I was quickly running out of time to do anything.. I’d been engaged for 4 months and had nothing, nada. We JUS pushed the date back to March 2011, so lucky for me I have another 4 months to ponder the whole thing.

Don’t feel bad though. I think STDs are crucially important since they are the FIRST thing anyone sees about your wedding. Give it time and you’ll come up with something you love. Your first attempts are great! I love the second one!

@sapphirebride: That’s great!

@LittlestBirds: Sometimes you just have to walk away for your brain to start generating those ideas!

@SaraElizabeth: Good point! We wanted people to enjoy opening that red envelope!
