Things I Love: Our Videographer

March 5th, 2010 @ 3:56 pm by Miss Argyle

Let me first start off by saying that Mr. A and I had no intention of hiring a videographer, that is, until October of 2009 rolled around.

Back in early fall, I fell in love with this video, which I found via Style Me Pretty. (I’ll wait, as I encourage you to watch the entire thing. It’s totes worth it.)

Aspen, Colorado – Super 8 Film from Kevin Von Qualen on Vimeo.

I fell in love with this video. Hard. So much so, in fact, that I shared it with everyone. I went on a mission to find a Super 8 videographer close to town (with no luck).

So, when I took a visit out to Colorado to visit to see one of my best friends (and bridesmaid) back in mid-October, I showed her the video.

She, too, fell in love.

Not even a week after I gpt back into town, I got an email from her. She happens to know the guy who shot the particular video above AND she contacted him about having him film our wedding (bonus points for her). I seriously was beyond excited and shared the news with the Mr. We did not make any commitments, only asked Kevin a few questions, as we needed to really think about this one. Nonetheless we were ecstatic at the possibility of booking him.

After Kevin sent us some information, we took a few weeks to mull it over and talk about it with the Mr.’s parents. We finally (and officially) booked him in mid-December. I know Super 8 isn’t what’s mainstream right now (well, I think it is), which is what I love about it. I mean, I literally sat at my desk with tears streaming down my face when I first watched the above video. It was just so moving, and it was then that I knew I had to make this happen.

Was there anything you ixnayed early in your planning, only to realize it was something you really wanted in the end?

Oh I saw that video too! I love it :) I really wanted a videographer but it just didn’t make the budget cut. Can’t wait to see yours!

Me and the FH were planning to have a videographer just for the ceremony so I re-allocated the extra money to photography. After attending a Bridal Show and watching sample videos, we decided we wanted a videographer for the entire wedding! Yay for re-calling the day in motion!!

The videographer! We weren’t going to have one either until we found someone that was happy to work with our budget. Huzzah!

We’re not having a videographer and now I’m afraid we’re making a mistake!

I COMPLETELY fell in love with videography exactly like this, thanks to seeing videos like the one you posted on Weddingbee and Style Me Pretty and just bawling at every single one. We booked the amazing Elysium Productions and I can’t wait to see what they put together for us. There is nothing so wonderful as knowing that all the special moments of that day are going to be there for us to relive again and again, because knowing me, I’d forget the details by the end of the honeymoon. I look forward to seeing yours too!

Oh, the same exact thing happened to us! We didn’t plan on having a videographer, but once I saw Super 8, I had to have it. We booked Joel Serrato and we’ll see our final video soon, I can’t wait! I love the highlights and it was the best splurge ever, we’ll have that video forever. Since I can’t help but share :) Here’s our video:

Not trying to sound snarky, but this is not videography.. this is cinematography..
This is where I plan to spend a FORTUNE for our wedding. It’s strange I know but I would rather have a not-so-amazing photographer (although I’ve been pretty impressed with him thus far) and splurge on a cinematographer. The one we chose idolizes StillMotion and actually went up to Canada to learn from them. They do same-day-edits, where they edit the film as they are filming and play it back at the reception- So all the things people did not get to see (bride getting ready, groom getting ready… and a replay of the ceremony) are shared with them during the reception.
