My family emigrated from Romania to San Jose, CA when I was 8, and I've been a Nor Cal girl ever since! My fiancé is also a Bay Area native, so it’s funny that we met at UCLA, as college freshmen living on the same floor (go Bruins!). Between his career as an Air Force pilot and my path to becoming a lawyer, our relationship has been anything but typical. We currently live together in Berkeley with our puppy Stinson. One Ring to Rule Them All

March 7th, 2010 @ 1:00 pm by Mrs. Jellyfish

Mr. Jelly and I browsed wedding rings today at a cute little mom-and-pop jewelry store in North Berkeley. They had a lot of unique and interesting designs and got me to start thinking outside the box on what kind of wedding band I might want. Until now, I was pretty set on just going with a classic channel set diamond band to go with my plain white gold solitaire. I was thinking something along these lines:

This one is an eternity band (diamonds all the way around) and a bit more delicate looking.

Today, I came across a couple different wedding bands that I really liked, yet were different from anything I’d considered before. The first looks like this:

I love how the diamonds are scattered in a whimsical way, and the ring was “comfort fit” so it felt so nice on my finger! The downside is that even though the ring looks gorgeous on its own, it’s 4mm wide (1mm wider than my engagement ring) so it looks kind of funny next to my engagement ring. I really love the way it looks on its own, though. I thought about wearing my engagement ring on my right hand, but I’m not sure if I want to do that. So when I got home, I looked around online and found out that a similar ring exists in a 3mm size, just like my engagement ring:

I think the 3mm size would look better next to my engagement ring, because they would both be the same width. I really did like the 4mm width scattered diamond band on its own, though, including that width. I wonder if the 3mm band would have the same appeal.

Lastly, I also tried on this design, which Mr. Jelly really liked. I though it was OK.

So there you have it. What do you think? Which do you like best? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

i’m going through this same thing as well! I love the Tiffany diamond Bezet and Etoile, but the Etoile is 4mm, and looked strange with my ring. The diamond Bezet seems simple enough to be able to be found for not eleventy billion dollars, but we haven’t had the best of luck.

I’m obviously partial to the bezel set comfort fit ones. :p

The 1st one (channel set). That’s the one I’m thinking of for an anniversary ring. I wear my mother’s veeeery plain band stacked on top of the Tiffany Notes I Love You ring. (Tiffany has a very similar ring: http://www.tiffany.com/Shopping/Item.aspx?fromGrid=1&sku=GRP00007&mcat=&cid=&search_params=s+1-p+1-c+-r+-x+-n+6-ri+-ni+0-t+etoile+&search=1
-but it’s suuuper expensive!)

I thought I’d do a traditional channel set with my solitaire engagement ring as well, but I ended up going with a pretty unique handmade band in a vine pattern with diamonds scattered throughout. I had a hard time deciding on the width too for similar reasons (the diamonds are scattered in a similar whimsical way) and ended up going with the narrower option - and I love it!

I like the first two and the last one! For some reason the scattered ones always look very costume-jewellery to me.

My wedding ring is a 4 mm wide scattered diamond band, just like the Whiteflash one. I am going to wear my engagement ring on my right hand because the wedding band is quite substantial on its own already and looks funny with my engagement ring, which is thinner. If you are set on wearing your engagement and wedding rings together, you will really need to try on the 3mm to see if it goes…

I like the scattered diamond band. I tried something similar on when we looked at wedding bands and thought it was neat looking. We decided on a pave set diamond band.

I love the Etoile-esque scattered diamond one… cause it looks just like mine!

Mine is 4mm (as is the shank on my e-ring at the top) and it has 8 diamonds and our birthstones.

The last one is my favorite. Mine looks a lot like the first one (traditional) but the diamonds are very small and subtle (I like the simplicity of it next to my engagement ring, which is a standard Tiffany setting). BUT I would love you last choice to go on the OTHER side of my engagement ring.
