The Wedding Planning Lull

March 7th, 2010 @ 4:25 pm by Mrs. Lace

Many engaged folks that I’ve talked to tell me that the beginning and end of wedding planning is the busiest. In the middle, they hit a lull where they didn’t do anything for a month or two. I thought to myself, ‘That’s not going to happen to us.’ I am a go-getter, a worry wart and non-procrastinator. Yet, these past four weeks, after passing out invitations, we really haven’t done any major wedding related tasks. In fact, I didn’t even realize that we were in a bit of a lull.

UNTIL…

I went to look at my registry and it said that there are 112 days left until the wedding. 112?! I quickly made a new to-do list. My wedding to-do list from now until June is four pages long. That quickly made me come out of my wedding planning lull.

First, I flipped out and wondered if I would be able to finish everything in time.

I could feel the stress creeping up into my shoulders. Mr. Lace said to me, “calm down. It’ll all get done.” I showed him the list. He agreed, that we should do something on the list today. Then, I organized my list to figure out what I should tackle first. Then, I blogged about it. :) And now, I am off to wedding plan.

Did you hit a wedding plan lull? What did you do to get out of it?

As you know, Miss Lace, I am RIGHT there with you ;-)
Yikes, do I EVER have a looooong to-do list, since I haven’t done a wedding-related thing for a month.

Yikes! That made me check the countdown to my own wedding (173). I’ve also been in a lull lately.

I find (at least I hope!) tackling the fun stuff is going to help get us out of it. For example, we’re going to start our registry next weekend.

Good luck! (And can’t wait to see you posting about your new accomplishments)

I’m at that point now where I want to throw my hands up in the air and hand everything off to someone else.

Except I know it won’t get done.

Therein lies the conundrum.

I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one in lull-lull land. I was all about wedding planning, then work got really busy. And I realized I am late sending out my save-the-dates, that I was suppose to mail in February!! And now it’s March!! Yikes!!

I’m at 188 days and I just don’t care anymore. I’ve been trying to get my fiance to do something - anything - for weeks, and I’m tired of getting stuck doing the stuff that neither one of us cares about just because I know I’ll actually get it done. At this point, even his groomsmen are emailing him to find out what he wants them to wear. It’s the *one* tasks that’s 100% his responsibility, and he’s done nothing. I’m ready to just say “Screw it”, tell him that the rest is up to him, and be done with it.

Hey fellow June bride! 103 days left here… and my “to do” list for March is a combination of alllll the things I neglected to do in February plus everything I have to finish this month. I’m still in a lull though, and having trouble snapping out of it!

I hit a harsh lull a couple months in. We very quickly booked almost all the vendors that were important to book early, and then I kind of hit the brakes. I even stopped reading wedding blogs, including WB. (Yeah.) I think I just hit overload and was taking in too much inspiration to be able to make decisions about things more complicated than vendors. Fortunately now we are back on track, and I am feeling satisfied that we knocked some major items off the to-do list this weekend. We better move fast in the next few weeks though, because I start a new job in April and time will be very tight until I get my feet under me there! Yes, the craft scissors and ribbon and zots will be flying in the LittlestBirds house for the rest of March.

With a 2 year engagement we’ve hit a few! I take a feww weeks off at a time, then realize I have more things to do.

I also felt a lull during the wedding planning - I think when I logged into our wedding website and saw that we had 100 days until the wedding, that really kicked me back into gear.

@redherring - I hear you. This weekend I wanted to review the invitation wording. And by review, I mean I wanted him to proof it for any errors (huge project right? *insert sarcasm here*). His response “I don’t want to have to deal with anything right now.”
WHAT?!?
You haven’t dealt with anything yet and you’re the one who wants this stupid big wedding. Hmm . . . I may have to make a trip to that pissedoffbrides blog that one of the bees set up to finish my vent.

103 days left.. we are almost in the double digits! Yikes. Still so much to do. Need to put the final changes in the invites & get them out the door! Man, it comes around quickly, doesn’t it… seems like it was just our engagement - 16 months from the wedding day… jeesh, time flies.

@Goldilocks1107: Haha. I think we all feel it once in awhile. :)

@alivoo01: I didn’t realize I was in one till I saw our countdown. Maybe that will help! :) My very to-do list also gave me the kick in the butt I needed.

OI. Me too. I feel like I don’t have THAT much left to do, but then, I haven’t made a list recently. I should do that. I did just check and I’m at 82 days, and I counted my free weekends between now and the wedding–I have 9. Eeeps. I should probably start doing….something.

Yes, there is a lull and then all of a sudden there is so much to do! But it’s all fun stuff. We are planning my daughters June wedding now and it kind of sneaks up on you! I found some creative and money saving ideas at http://www.celebrationideasonline.com/Planning-a-wedding.html A really great article on wedding invitations with sample wording and ways to save money on them.

I definitely hit a lull after booking four vendors in two weeks. I think it is COMPLETELY fine and to be expected! To Do lists are great too, but there may be some things that, at some point, you just decide you don’t want anymore. We had strands of light that I was going to turn into DIY lanterns per Martha Stewart, white lunch bags and ribbon…didn’t end up happening, don’t regret it a bit!
