About Mrs. Hot Wings

Mr. Hot Wings, this one is not for you. Go play elsewhere, please.

Part I of my dress search began with Mama Hot Wings. Part II of the search went somewhat differently. Have you ever heard the saying, “Champagne tastes on a beer budget?” Because that is where this story is headed.

Hottie A (brideswoman & college roomy) lives just outside of NYC so we don’t get to see each other much. She had gotten engaged not too long after I did. So when I was out East for a conference, we decided to have a bridal day, the try-on-dresses-together-and-drink-champagne-to-celebrate-our-engagements kind.

We went to Mark Ingram’s Bridal Atelier when they were having an Elizabeth Fillmore trunk show. We figured we wanted to know what it was like to try on dresses that were thousands of dollars. They were way above our budgets, so this was a real risky trip. What if we fell in love with something? We’d have to change our budgets a lot. But, we went forward anyways.

At the end of our dual appointment, there was one winner. I liked Rivini’s Florenta. The Rivini dresses fit my body really well and the proportion felt good. This dress came in at $6,000, so was not going to happen. The other problem that you can’t quite see in this picture was the disco ball factor. The dress had a lot of sparkly beading, and I was fearful it would be too much for the bright August sun.

Then, it was time to have a girlfriends’ toast to our new engagements! We had discussed going to the swanky Four Seasons on Park Avenue, right around the corner from the Bridal Atelier. It sounds really great, right?

Wrong. We were both pretty shell shocked when we saw that champagne costs $40/glass. We ended up having 2 cocktails and 1 appetizer and walked out having spent almost 100 buck-a-roos. What a day! It wasn’t our usual ladies day out, but I do have to admit that it was a once in a lifetime experience at a once in a lifetime moment and a lasting memory.

Have you had any “champagne tastes on a beer budget” moments?

That sounds like a blast! I really wanted to go try on some expensive dresses but with my luck I’d fall in love with one!

Stardust Celebrations had a dress on its rack when my mother called out to me, “This dress is pretty, you should try it on!” My bridal consultant warned us we should have a steady heart and look at the price tag prior to trying it on. It was an astounding $20,000!! Can’t wait to see “The One” that captured your heart and budget!!

I refused to try on expensive dresses as I KNEW I would love them and not be able to afford them! Looking forward to seeing your dress.

Haha.. it’s okay once in awhile! :) But $40 for a glass of bubbly?!

I had to stay away from expensive dresses like @brianalaura mentioned because I knew I might fall in love with one! You’ll find the one that you love. :) Just give it some time!

almost 98% of my dress shopping was trying on dresses that were about twice my budget. so much fun! i fell in love with a few, but they were easy to resist because they were so expensive.

you know, that really makes me mad when places charge so much for a glass of bubbly. you can buy a really great bottle of champagne for $40. jerks.

I actually like craft beer better than champagne, haha.

Wowza, that’s expensive for a drink! And I’m much like you and Miss Pug-I tried on a LOT of dresses above my price range. And I fell in love with 2 in particular, but love the dress I finally got even more.

I have yet to try on big budget dresses, but I probably will just for fun :).
