So, I got bitten by the DIY bug early Saturday morning and went to town on the card box. And because I was in a zone with my needle and thread, I have failed you all by not taking pictures during the process. I’m sorry.
But here she is all done up…

At first I was going to break out the hot glue gun, but decided in the end to sew everything on because 1) I didn’t know if the hot glue would melt the nylon on the box, and 2) I figured I could cut everything off with a little snip down the road and reuse the box without destroying it.
First, I made the bow with my glittery ribbon by cutting 3 different lengths of ribbon – 6 long, 4 medium, and 4 short. I looped them into figure 8s, and strung them onto 1 piece of thread, then added the bead in the middle…

Then I measured 2 pieces of ribbon to go around the lid. I had to do the top and bottom separately because I didn’t want the slit to be obstructed by ribbon. I wrapped the 2 pieces all the way around to the underside of the lid so they met in the middle, and sewed everything, including the bow, underneath with one stitch. Sorry, the lid is sewn on so this is the best pic I can offer you from peering inside…

Next, I sewed on the pieces along the sides with 2 little stitches at the top and bottom of the ribbon…

I didn’t go all the way around the bottom because I didn’t have enough ribbon, and no one will see the bottom anyway. Next up, I sewed the pieces of hanger that MacGyver aka Mr. Nachos cut for me. And because the hanger pieces were still able to slide up if you triedto open the lid, I decided to sew the lid to the bottom part of the box, too…

I made the tag in PowerPoint because without it, the box just looked like a present and I didn’t think people would realize what it was for! At first, the font I chose kinda looked like it said ‘Eards’, and Mr. N kept saying, “eeeee-yards, eeee-yards!” like the sound of a REALLY annoying nacho donkey, so I ever so quickly changed it to Harrington font. I used one of my handy-dandy stamps above and below the word ‘Cards’, and I sewed the tag to the ribbon…

And that’s it!

Are you DIYing your own card box or leaving it up to the pros?
