Let Them Eat Cake? (Take Two)

March 8th, 2010 @ 11:20 am by Mrs. Hot Dog

I mentioned that neither Mr. HD nor I particularly likes cake. It’s not such a big issue, except that we had been planning on serving mass quantities of it at our wedding.

We needed another option. Something unique. Something sweet and deeelish. Something like…

PIES! Yes, you read right… yummy, delicious pies!!

Apple, cherry, lemon meringue, rhubarb, huckleberry, mixed berry, chocolate cream… MMMMM! A pie bar is perfect!!

I just LUUURVE the heart shaped crust on the top of that pie! So sweet… Source

I’m so giddy right now thinking about it!! Mr. Hot Dog and I love pie so much, and his dad bakes the best!

Now… I think there needs to be another dessert station… but what should we serve at it?

Do you love pie as much as moi? What’s your fave flavor?!

My FI and I are doing the same thing! I’m not picky but my FI loves pie so much he begged if we could do it instead of cake. Sure! I’m having family members make their yummy versions and I’m going to collect pie stands from them too to save on money. I love the idea :) Our officiate, who I have known for years, when he found out we were doing pie his eyes lit up like a little kid on Christmas morning! HAHA

Favorite flavor: Dutch apple

Those are all really cute…I think Mrs. Cowboy Boot did something like this at her wedding, all different types of pies.

I am also doing pie at my wedding! My fiance and I have always had a love for pies. Our wedding is June 26, 2010, ceremony outside and the reception at my farm. We are doing all fruit pies (apple, peach, blueberry, strawberry rhubarb, and black raspberry) and it will be served a la mode! I am still wondering how I want to set up the display table, since this will be our only dessert….using cake stands at different heights maybe…all I know is I love pie!
Favorite is apple crumb with cinnamon ice cream

My nickname growing up was Pie Face. I am hoping to have pie at the rehearsal dinner so that it is still part of our wedding weekend! My favorites are: blueberry, cherry, strawberry rhubarb, chocolate creme, and apple.

My favorite is anything with Strawberries! Perhaps your other dessert station can be ice cream so you can have pie a la mode!!!

an ice cream station would go so nicely and maybe a microwave to warm it all up :)

We’re definitely going primarily with pies for the dessert because it’s what we like, but also getting a croque em bouche for people who would prefer something else. The croque em bouche will be a little bit glamorous and traditionally weddingy (a bone of contention with my family is that our wedding isn’t weddingy enough) without being a three tiered cake.

I’m clearly not sure about yours, but I know that at least one of our guests doesn’t particularly like pie, so if you go that route it might be nice to have another option.

We’re doing pie instead of cake and getting married on Pi Day (3.14.10) this coming weekend. We’re just a bit nerdy. Just a bit.

Five different pies - strawberry rhubarb, his favorite, lemon sponge, chocolate cream, blueberry, and caramel apple crumb.

Can’t wait!

It’s been far too long since I baked a pie for us… thanks for the inspiration! These look fantastic.

I think we’re going to do pies too. I love strawberry-rhubarb! Tastes like summer. :)
