Mrs. Hot Wings, Chicago/San Diego Age and Occupation: 28, Professor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Instructor Engagement Date: December 20, 2008 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood Restaurant About Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!
About Mrs. Hot Wings

Mr. Hot Wings, stop reading and get back to work. Today’s post is not for your eyes.

After a failed mission with Mama Hot Wings and a champagne-on-a-beer-budget outing, I was ready to get back down to earth.

I headed to House of Brides in Chicago with a fellow friend/bride. The salespeople at House of Brides were great. They had a great selection and I walked away from the day with two dresses that I liked.

This first dress was a contender for a moment.

I loved how it cinched my waist and made me feel like I had curves. It was made of taffeta, and I got scared of how hot I would get. My legs were already sweating in the shop. Problem #2 was that I could hear Mama Hot Wings saying that there were “not enough sparkles.” She always wants more. I can’t recall the actual name of this dress but I believe it is either San Patrick Esfera or La Sposa Fenal.

But What If I Can’t Say “Yes” to the Dress – Part III : wedding pasadena wedding dress 11 IMG_1870

Then, the Allure 8586. I saw this dress on the mannequin when we walked into the salon and quickly dismissed it. Dresses on mannequins are expensive, right? Well, it wasn’t so bad. It was rather pretty. But the salesperson really had to try hard to cinch the waist to give me any shape. I did fear the disco ball effect with this dress. It had a lot of sparkles. A lot!

But What If I Can’t Say “Yes” to the Dress – Part III : wedding pasadena wedding dress 31 IMG_1873

So even though I liked this dress, I still had doubts. I decided that I am not a cry-over-the-dress bride. So it was decided: it could be the one, but I couldn’t be the decider. Honestly though, I was over it. I just wanted to be done. I needed my Mama. If I couldn’t cry, maybe she could.

Did you need someone else to say “yes” to the dress, or were you more decisive than I was?

Wow! Dress number one is perfect for you ! And if there is not enough sparkles, you can always add sparkles with your jewellery!

those both look great, and i don’t see any disco ball effect. i lean towards the first one because the rouching helps give more curves (my dress is like that also), although it doesn’t sound like it was comfortable enough. you look so elegant and lovely in the second one! i didn’t have a cry moment either, even though i really wanted one.

I love dress #1! I also didn’t have a cry moment - I’m just not the sort of girl to cry over a dress.

I did all my dress shopping myself and yes I def think that’s why I had SUCH a hard time deciding. I just needed to bounce my thoughts off someone else and hear opinions from others. I REALLY really wanted to hear what FI thought. I ended up letting time decide for me. I waited till the very last possible minute and went with the cheaper of the 2 I was debating between. I like it well-enough, and what’s lacking in love is made up for in appreciation over the $$ I’m saving (to be spent elsewhere of course!!)

I vote for dress #1! I didn’t have a cry moment either.. but at this point, I just wanted to get the dress shopping over with. One of my friends brought up a really good point and that is I’m not a type of person who gets emotional over things! Good luck!

My mom is the same way with the sparkles! If she could turn me into a disco ball for my wedding, I think she would! Lol! :)

I really love #1 on you!!! I picked mine out after trying on about 50 dresses!! I then bought it over a year before I needed to. My only problem is, I can’t lose too much weight or the beading will be sacrificed! :(

Dress #1 has my solid vote!!

I was TOTALLY in the same boat as you. I had several disappointing shopping excursions. My bridal consultant actually said yes to my dress for me after numerous try ons, and was re-confirmed by my mom and cousin. I on the other hand was still indecided, but purchased it any way as time was dwindling if I wanted a dress by August! Let us know ASAP what you decide on!!

I like them both and they both look lovely on you, but I think I like #1 a smidge better. It emphasizes your tiny waist! Also, FWIW, I didn’t cry, either. ;)

Dress #1 is the San Patrick Esfra. It shouldn’t be taffeta because the one I tried on is royal satin. Did you buy your dress yet? If you didn’t, I have a brand new one size 4 to sell coming in May. I decided to go with another dress for my August wedding.

aww.. you’re all too nice. I have actually picked a dress and it wasn’t one of these 2. But wait for it… it’s coming. Hopefully you all won’t be disappointed in my choice.

I had to have my mom and sister tell me that my dress was The One - I kept waiting and waiting for the feeling of knowing and it never arrived!

#1. Totally. You look very pretty in both, but #2 pales in comparison when you compare the shape and silhouette of both. Either way, though, I’m sure you’ll look beautiful! :)

I totally relied on other people to tell me what they liked.
and then I got mad when I didn’t like something they did! Wedding dress shopping was a little frustrating for me!

Honestly, I rarely comment on posts about dresses, because I feel like everybody is looking for something in particular, but…

…holy frijoles, does that first dress look fantastic on you!! If you want someone to say yes for you, we’re saying it! 1! 1! 1!
