Mrs. Pudding's Picture
Mrs. Pudding, Greater Toronto Area/Vermont Age and Occupation: 26, High School Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Computer Engineer Engagement Date: August 2008 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Catholic Ceremony, Cultural Hall Reception About Me: Quite literally a citizen of the world, I was born in Poland, grew up in Canada, and now live in the beautiful state of Vermont. I love reading historical biographies, multi-tasking, teasing my hair, and, despite my height, wearing high heeled shoes. I am the ultimate klutz with an uncanny ability to put on a graceful front. Mr. Pudding and I have been dating for over six years, and are very excited to finally merge our (very large) families. We are planning a traditional Polish-Catholic wedding that is anything but predictable.
About Mrs. Pudding

Our rehearsal dinner has been stressing me out lately. You see, with so many out of town guests, we are looking at having a big guest list for the dinner. And when I say “big”, I mean HUGE. And when I say “HUGE”, I mean bigger than many wedding receptions.

The guest list is currently approaching 100.

We don’t have much planned for the rehearsal dinner yet. We have decided that since the wedding will be “Polish light” (we want both of our cultures incorporated), the rehearsal dinner will be a Polish bonanza. We will be serving Polish favorites such as pierogi, cabbage rolls, and barszcz.

We also know that we will have some version of the Polterabend (a post on this is coming, I promise!).

Other than that, I have no idea what our rehearsal dinner will look like. I want the atmosphere to be fun and friendly, and I am looking forward to our families having the chance to meet each other before the wedding. I have to admit though - sometimes I feel like we are planning two back-to-back weddings! :P

Will your rehearsal dinner be big and fabulous, or small and intimate? Are you incorporating any cultural details into the event?

my rehearsal dinner is going to be HUGE! I’m so happy to have all my family coming in from out of town, but it’s def. causing us a little stress. My goal is to keep it fun and casual … and on the less expensive end :)

@tea - ohmygoodness that looks amazing!! We’re in Chicago, and this years Pierogi fest apparently takes place the weekend after our wedding! Minimoon, anyone?

Miss Pudding - that food looks _amazing_! We’re doing a giant casual rehersal dinner, too. Since everyone’s coming in from out of town, we wanted to be able to spend as much time with them as possible. We’re seriously considering doing a BBQ with a whole roast pig. BBQ because my family’s roots are in Texas, and the whole roast pig because my FI is half cuban, and growing up his family had one every year for Noche Buena.

yuummmy! Our rehearsal is getting pretty huge too. We’re at 90 right now and that’s just wedding party and family. Those darn large families! It’ll be fun though right?!?!

PIEROGIES!!! Delicious. What is the red soupy stuff in the last photo? It looks like beet soup…which I’d be willing to try, as a vegetarian :)

We didn’t have a lot of out-of-town guests, so we weren’t obligated to have a large rehearsal dinner. However, I was soooo confused about rehearsal dinner etiquette. Since we paid for the wedding ourselves, we wanted to keep the rehearsal dinner relatively intimate, but I wasn’t exactly sure who we were supposed to extend the invites too (I mean, do you include the ushers plus his parents and all five brothers and sisters?).

Does anyone know a bit more about rehearsal dinner etiquette for those on a shoestrig budget (or just in general)?

Okay, you just made me have to go fix myself a second helping of lunch. Thanks. :)

Ours will be small and intimate! Probably about 40 people; though, that’s a lot considering the wedding reception will only have 60 people. I’m really looking forward to it, it’s going to be a low-stress and fun way to greet and hang out with all my awesome friends and family that I miss so much living out on the other coast.

@tea: I did not know that! I may just have to convince Mr. P to take a little road trip with me :P
@ChiCat: Wow! That sounds like so much fun…and an experience your guests are sure to remember!
@Miss Pretzel: You’ll be there in spirit! :P
@MeadowbelleMarket: It is beet soup! It’s one of the few vegetarian Polish dishes. As for the rehearsal dinner etiquette, as far as I understand, the people involved in the rehearsal should be invited to the dinner. I know that recently many couples invite out of town guests as well, just to extend the celebration. I am by no means an expert though :P

Where do you plan on having your rehearsal dinner? My FI is 100% polish and I am trying to incorporate some polish themes into our wedding but am finding it hard to do so! He isn’t too sure what the traditions are and his mom didn’t have a traditional wedding because she came over so young and her mother is still in Poland. Any help you can offer is much appreciated! Also, I know there is a song they sing…but I can only pronounce it and don’t know the words. It starts with something like Stolacz. Forgive my spelling!
