Mrs. Frozen Yogurt's Picture
Mrs. Frozen Yogurt, Dallas Age and Occupation: 28, Special Projects Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Equity Trader Engagement Date: March 19, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: Marie Gabrielle, Dallas About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, and have lived in several of the cities across the state, but I currently reside in Austin. I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.
About Mrs. Frozen Yogurt

So, remember when I was searching for my dream cake stand? Well, the hive came through in a BIG way. Bakerella offered to go to a store in Canada, Mrs. Ramen offered to go to a store in California, and Miss Stripes got on the phone to call several Potluck Studios retailers. Well, all of that paid off because a wonderful store called Pine Cone Hill in Massachusetts had the last flirt ruffle cake stand left. I was so excited I could hardly contain myself. It was all a blur. I’m pretty sure I gave my credit card number and address, but that’s all I really remember.

Then, it arrived:

I ripped open the packaging and pulled out my cake stand. Only, there was one major problem:

I was so sad. I didn’t know what to do, so I ignored it. I left it in its box and just pretended like I didn’t have a broken cake stand sitting in my living room in a big brown box. Finally, after a week of denial, I called the store that came to my rescue in the beginning and told them what happened. They remembered how badly I wanted the cake stand, so they searched the warehouse and called me back to report that it was indeed the last one. They told me just to throw the cake stand away and that they would credit the amount back on my card.

But, I felt like just because it had that crack didn’t mean it was worthless. I could easily glue that piece back on. Once I did it would look something like this:

I know it’s not perfect and you can still tell that it has a crack, but could I just put this part of the cake stand in the back? I wasn’t entirely sure, so I bought yet another cake stand. This time, from Williams Sonoma.

I think it’s so pretty, but it’s not quite the flirt ruffle that I fell in love with on the first cake stand. So, I don’t know what to do.

What would you do? Glue the first one and make sure that the unsightly part is in the back? Or should I just use the other cake stand because it has no imperfections?

You could cover the bottom part with flowers to hide the crack

I think you should keep the first one… you can hide the crack and the first one is a lot nicer in my opinion. Actually the crack makes it individual to it and is part of the story now! I love love love ruffle cake stands… I dream of owning a fenton hobnail milk glass cake stand but I don;t have anywhere to keep it at the moment and I’m so scared I would break it!

I would use the one you love still.

Just hot glue a ribbon around that bad boy! ;)

keep the first one! i really don’t think anyone will notice the crack if you keep it turned towards the back or use something to cover it, like ribbon or flowers!

you have got to keep the first one! there must be something at Home Depot that can fill that in, smoothed out and glossed, I think it will look fine. Maybe still keep that spot in the back - no one will even notice! It’s gorgeous

I agree with everyone else, keep the first one and put the crack in the back! It’s just too pretty to ignore! :)

I honestly would use the first one! No one is going to peek around the back of your cake stand and examine it, I don’t think it would be a big deal at all to just turn the crack around to the backside. But if it really bothers you you could always do something like the above suggestions and cover it with flowers or something else! :-)

I would just turn it around and keep it. If you have any ceramic studios in the area they might be able to fix it too. It’s such a pretty stand.

turn it to the back, cove with a ribbon, have flowers at the base. No one will be close enough to see the crack!

Definately keep the first one. The story of searching all over the country for the perfect stand is just too much to ignore. Call a local ceramics studio (if nothing else, a lot of universities have them) and see if they can recommend anything to patch it up. And I agree with ariellebride - put a ring of flowers around the bottom and nobody will know but you!

I LOVE Pine Cone Hill! Their Willow Knit collection is amazing.

I had no idea that had such wonderful things as cake stands. Craziness.

Keep the one you love. That would be an easy cover.

I also vote to keep the first one - there is just something about it. It’s so feminine, elegant and lovely to look at.

Some of the ideas given to cover it with flowers, ribbon, or turn it around are all things to consider.

I think either way, there will be an imperfection in your mind, so either would technically be a win (or lose). If you can cover the crack with something, I’d go with that one. Although, if you use the second one, honestly the cake is going to be the focal point so the stand might not make that much of a different impact when all is said and done. I’m curious to see what you decide to do!

Hi! I haven’t officially introduced myself to all the bees yet..I’m actually a stalker. LOL. I couldnt help posting though because I just purchased milk cake stands for my engagement party. If you have a Costco in your area, they are selling a box of two cakestands in different sizes for 19.99! They also have the ruffles..If you do plan to use it, flowers will cover it up nicely and no one is going to stand that close to your cake. I’ve been to two friend’s wedding and never saw the cake up close…

Costco is selling stands that look exactly like the broken one. They come two to a box for $20 and I think are one each of 12 inches and 11 1/2 inches.

I’d keep it. Seriously, nobody (besides you) will notice.
