Gathering My Hair Inspiration

March 11th, 2010 @ 12:35 pm by Mrs. Buttons

If you’ve been following along, you might recall that a few months ago I started to gather some hair inspiration.

Over the course of the past few months, I slowly built up a folder of images that I had stumbled upon. Seriously, for those of you with “medium” length straight hair, it can be daunting. I was constantly bombarded with images of gorgeous brides with low, loose, curly buns… messy yet beautiful hairstyles that I drooled over. The thing is, I LOVE my straight hair… from day to day. However, this is the ONE time in my life that I was wishing my hair had some texture! Alas…

Although the pictures were hard to come by, I managed to gather a small collection of feasible and achievable hairstyle inspirations to bring with me to the salon for my hair trial…

OK, first of all… I just adore Reese Witherspoon. What I really love about this hairstyle is the volume on the top… it isn’t a ballerina bun that is flattened to her skull!

Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy are so cute! I really liked the placement of this hairstyle.

You may recognize this chignon photo from my original post. I like that you can tell the model doesn’t have too much hair, because I sure do not! Upon further consideration though, I realized that I don’t like the idea of having bangs falling down in front of my face. End of May in Florida = humid, and I know that bangs would turn into a greasy mess…

Ohhh my gosh I adore this hairstyle! I saved it, but was unsure if it would be possible with my hair… but I decided to bring it along regardless!

Some more bun-loving goodness… because I can…

Did you have a hard time finding some hair inspiration? Is anyone else in the straight, short hair boat? What look did you/are you going for?

I had a crazy hard time with inspiration. I knew I wanted my hair down, then I saw all these beautiful updos that confused me. I will compromise and go half-up. ;)

I had a super hard time finding inspiration. My hair refuses to curl, and getting married in July makes it 100X harder. I ended up loving some of the same pictures as you and going in a similar direction.

I also have medium length straight brown hair. I am excited to see what you end up with!

I have super curly hair and am irritated by all the “curly hair dos” that require you to straighten your curls, then put new ones in with a curling iron. WTF?!? Just because my hair is curly, doesn’t mean it holds foreign curls (it does not!). Show me curly dos that have your hair in its natural form!

I started growing out my hair as soon as I got engaged, but you know, with some bobby pins and hairspray, they seem to be able to do anything!

I decided to do an “up-do”. It’s a low “do” that is full of curls, with a soft front. I do love the one that you LOVE.. it’s very elegant!

@Miss Lace: It really is amazing, isn’t it? My hair is just past my shoulders at the moment, and I’m still able to achieve some awesomeness!

I think those would look so great w/ your hair :) I had a hard time too b/c my short style is layered… that’s why I just did it myself.

My friend had shoulder-length fine hair for her wedding and they managed to make a very full looking chignon with some kind of fake-hair scrunchie tucked inside her real hair. A good hairstylist can work wonders.

I’m hoping for a messy updo. Something formal, but hopefully not uptight. Haven’t met with my hair stylist yet so who knows!

I love all those styles - I am looking for something very similar! I am going to save these for when it’s time for me to start look for hair inspiration - thanks :)

I am having a hard time with hair inspiration, as I have very fine hair that is only shoulder-length, *and* it’s curly. Several obstacles. But I’m meeting with a stylist soon, hopefully we can figure something out.

I agree! I have similar hair length and I did not want to grow it out for the wedding. I am really looking for half-up, half down or completely down styles and that is difficult also!!

These photos are beautiful though! I love the low bun.

I’m having the hardest time with hair inspiration! I have looong hair so I don’t want it to make me too hot, but we’ll see.

I have had the a-line bob since I was 19 (I’m now 25) and I started growing it out a couple years ago in preparation for my wedding day.
It has been the hardest thing to not chop it off! It’s now about to my bra strap, it’s medium thicknes and curly/wavy. It takes me forever to dry and straighten. BUT I’m so glad to have some texture, and my hair definitely holds a curl!
I have found so many gorgeous inspiration photos…now I just have to choose!

You’ve got great inspiration photos, I love loose buns!
