Mrs. Hot Wings's Picture
Mrs. Hot Wings, Chicago/San Diego Age and Occupation: 28, Professor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Instructor Engagement Date: December 20, 2008 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood Restaurant About Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!

Signatures Please

Signatures Please : wedding diy guestbook san diego 1 IMG_2232

Remember those awesome engagement pictures I shared here and here? I used them to create our guestbook. I played around with Blurb and MyPublisher. Ultimately, I used Blurb because I found it easier to create full bleeds like this one below.

I really enjoyed coming up with my own proportions like this one below.

I paid extra to have the wrap-around cover where a picture is printed on the actual hard cover. Again, I used the full bleed option. I’m a little obsessed, what can I say? It happens.

Even though we got the premium paper, it still seemed a bit thin. Oh well, it’ll have to do. I just want to check it off the To-Do List.

OK.. and one more full bleed because I love them so much.

Two Questions:

(1) Do you think people are going to understand that they are allowed to sign on the empty space like the left hand page on the last full bleed?

(2) Do you think we have to worry about adults acting like teens and drawing mustaches on our pretty pictures?

I think you should have a sign next to the guestbook to let them know to sign your book.

I also don’t think you should have a problem with adults making inappropriate doodles but you should know your guests better than I do. LOL I would just keep it away from little kids though if you are inviting them. :)

Your book came out amazing and I was thinking of using Blurb to make a picture book as well.

I have been thinking of going this route and before this I never thought that people might do that and now I kinda hope they do. For some reason it cracks me up to see serious pictures with doodles!

We did the same thing. I made up a little sign that explained what to do and folks only wrote in the white space. Not a mustache to be found.

i’m doing something very similar, and am putting a sign right by the book that basically says “sign this” and also putting a note in the program, but i think the sign is sufficient.

heehee, what if they drew devil horns instead–would that be okay?

Looks great! Can I ask what size book you chose?

You can always have your bridal party sign it first, so that people will know it’s cool.

1) yes 2) no. We’re doing this exactly, though we might opt for a layout that has partial lined pages so it’s more apparent to people that they can write. We’ll definitely have a small sign explaining that this is, in fact, the guestbook, and also recruit the bridal party and immediate family to kick off the signing so that people can see there are signatures in there.

I was anxious about making sure I left enough actual white space for our pictures. But I used MyPublisher instead of Blurb because it was quick and easy. For our wedding pics, I’ll probably step it up but MyPublisher was very easy to use. I haven’t received our books yet, but I used their ubiquitous 2 for 1 coupon to create a guest book and something to send my mom for mother’s day.

It looks fantastic! I like the suggestion of having bridal party/immediate family sign it first, then everyone will know to do the same!

1) no… i think your bridal party should sign first so people can see that it is ok.
2) no, unless there are actual teenagers. :)

I agree. Have your bridal party, or moms, or someone sign it to kind of “guide it.” I went to a wedding recently where they had a book made of their engagement photos for people to sign, but guests were signing it in a standard wedding guestbook style - just writing their names, one after the other, on a single page!

1) No. I wouldn’t know to write on the pics. I agree with others-have your bridal party sign first, and a sign next to the book should help.

2) No. I don’t think anyone would do that at at wedding.

Love your book!

lol, i think the extra doodles will depend on your group of friends. but hopefully no one will.

i’d also have some early signers get in and sign in the empty spots to demonstrate that it’s ok. people are more likely to follow directions when someone else has left an example

I don’t think anyone would de-face your photos, but maybe put put a sign to let people know what to do :).

I’m doing the same thing for our guestbook too! except I used mypublisher… i’m jealous of yours and now wish I had used blurb instead :( Haha. I’m making a sign for the guests telling them they can sign in any open spot :) (btw, i love your e-photos. Moe shot ours a few months after yours and he’s shooting our wedding!)

I agree, I’d be hesitant to write all over the picture so you might want a sign. And for the second question, not mustaches, but maybe a big heart around your faces? :) That is such a great idea!

haha I didn’t even think of the mustache on the photos. I don’t think you have to worry though. Sister Starfish did this for her wedding and everyoe acted liek adults and left really nice messages.

I think you should have a few bridesmaids or whoever sign the blank pages so people get the idea.

And I think… it’d be funny to get mustaches. Well, if you knew who did them :-P Depends on what kind of friends you have I guess. I wouldn’t have thought of it… but since you suggested it… maybe you’ll have friends who think the same? :-P
