Child Aisle Style

March 12th, 2010 @ 5:40 pm by Mrs. Hot Dog

As far as the flower girls and ring bearers (3 of each!) go, I’m not particularly picky as to what they wear down the aisle. I told all the mommies and daddies to just pick something something cute and comfortable for the little ones. That’s the thing about kids; they look cute no matter WHAT you put them in!

But, for some reason, I’ve been dwelling on what they will carry down the aisle. For the boys, it’s obvious that they’ll carry a pillow. And I happen to have one that I made myself.  The girls, however, are undecided. Of course my first thought was baskets of flower petals. I mean, how adorable is this?!

But then I saw THIS and just about died of cuteness overload.

TRES, cute, non?? Ya, I thought so, too. I can totally picture my little ladies carrying these bad boys down the aisle… I can also picture them (or the boys) having a Battle Royale after the ceremony. A hilarious photo op, if you ask me!

Now, do I want real or faux flowers, or should I go the tissue paper route? They are both lovely! Obviously the tissue paper is more budget friendly, but I love the look of the flowers…

What are you giving your littlest wedding party members to carry down the aisle??

I too will have 6 rugrats all decked out for the snapper, and I just talked to florist last night. He was very much of the opinion that it’s really totally variable, depending on the age & personality of each girl. I asked about the pom poms, and he said that if the pompoms are fresh flowers, they can be fairly heavy, and are often abandoned before you’re ready! He was in favour of baskets & buckets, of either petals or actual arrangements. Easy carried, and very cute. I’m leaning towards baskets full of fresh sweet peas… So girly and pretty. That said, you’re so right about the pom pom battle photo ops!

I think we’re doing the poms. I had initially planned to do tissue paper flowers but like you I really just like the look of real flowers. I am a little worried that they will ditch/break/fling/take apart the poms prior to the ceremony though…so now i’m just trying to decide real vs fake.

My florist says our flower girl will have a “tussy mussy”. I’m still not exactly sure what that is. lol.

haha, battle royale. let’s hope they don’t use them as kickballs like the guests did at lovebug’s wedding! i think there’s a picture of her kicking one too. lol.

if you like the look of flowers, i’d probably go with silk flowers. you can make it ahead and they probably won’t be as heavy as a real flower pomander would

Our flower girl will just be a year and a half old so we’re dumping a lot of pedals in a little red wagon and she can play in them and throw them around while someone pulls her down the aisle.

I have gone back and forth on this. I keep seeing adorable takes on flowers sticking out of a pail and then she would also have petals in the basket/pail (it’s an outdoor wedding) she could throw. I wanted the pomander, but the little FG has her heart set on throwing petals.

Okay,

Speaking as someone who had to carry a “snowball” as it was called during a winter wedding, please please PLEASE do not use real flowers. Fake, tissue paper, sure, but this ball of flowers have to sit on her lap throughout the entire ceremony, and might lead to a very wet lap if they are done by a florist.

By all means, it is incredibly adorable. But, again with the water, they become very heavy for a kid to carry. Fake flowers or tissue paper would be the perfect solution to this.

Just thought I’d offer some advice from someone who had to carry one haha

I love the pomanders, they are so cute! The tissue paper idea sounds really unique!

Our venue doesn’t allow flowers to be thrown or open flames, so we are forgoing a memorial candle/candle lighter and having 8 flower girls carry a couple of stems each to place in a vase for a memorial bouquet. I can’t wait to see it all put together!

Pomanders are cute, but i think having the kids DO something (tossing petals) makes them less nervous :)

My wedding is outside, so I was thinking if I could find bubble guns for my flowergirls so as they walk down the asile they can pull the trigger and make all the bubbles they want!! I thought it would be cool and cut down on my flower budget.

I wanted to do pomander ball for our flower girl but our florist said not a good idea for a four year old. It might be too heavy for her or she might start whacking people with it.
Also, they are expensive! I believe he said a 5″-6″ ball will cost $45!

I absolutely love the look of pomanders, but my niece is SO excited about throwing petals - I can’t take her moment away from her, haha!

When a friend of mine got engaged this fall, I was asking her for some wedding details, and she said about the only thing figured out was that her flowergirl was going to carry a flower pomander. It’s funny what details people concentrate on first :)

My flowergirl is a bit older–10–so I think I might have her carry a little bouquet or nosegay.

We’re doing small pomanders for our flower girls. One of them is quite young — only 2 1/2, so we thought that tossing petals and holding a basket might be too much to expect of her. I hope the pomanders not too heavy. Our florist never mentioned that idea. …but they’re just going to be made out of green button mums, and they’ll be pretty small, so I think this is going to work out great!

I’m doing exactly like the picture, actually - we’re going to have a 2- and a 3-year old as our flower girls, so we’re giving them pomanders and flower circlets for their heads. :)

I pondered between the two as well, but decided with the traditional basket and petals. My flower girl will be almost 2 and the pom would be too heavy for her.
