Mrs. Veggie's Picture
Mrs. Veggie, Raglan, New Zealand/Scranton, PA Age and Occupation: 27, Director of Small Non-Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 42, PhD Student & Farmer Engagement Date: June 13, 2009 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: Indian Head Camp, Honesdale Pennsylvania About Me: I am a tree-huggin' farmer turned enthusiastic wedding-planner. I live in a house truck and wear flip-flops more often than shoes. In my old life I was a high school Spanish teacher in love with a crazy guy who lived off-the grid on a farm in New Hampshire. But, we decided to mix things up a bit, quit our jobs and move to New Zealand. My southern hemisphere lifestyle involves growing veggies, teaching, running our small non-profit, and surfing. I love laughing, singing, playing, and the inspirational Mr. Veggie (of course!). For our wedding, I am committed to throwing a killer party that celebrates our values without breaking the bank. Look forward to an eco-thrifty summer-campy weekend-long extravaganza.

Found It!

March 12th, 2010 @ 3:05 pm by Mrs. Veggie

After months of searching camp websites and Skyping with camp directors at obscenely early hours of the morning (NZ time), we found a venue. This means that I also know our wedding/anniversary date. Hooray! Even just typing it I get giddy.

Drum roll please…

Here is the lake.

And the cute little cabins people will stay in.

And the beautiful lodge where we will hold the reception.

All pictures from Camp Choconut Website.

Isn’t it amazing? We will have the whole camp for the whole weekend for around $4,000. We are planning on charging people a small fee for accommodation. We figure that they would pay for a hotel anyway if they were coming from out of town. We haven’t exactly worked out the logistics of this yet, but it would be a nominal fee compared to booking a hotel (around $15 or so).

Did you provide lodging for your guests?

The only lodging we’re providing is letting my fiance’s siblings stay at our house and letting some relatives park their RVs on our street. Hotels are so expensive here in Seattle, esp. over the holiday we’re getting married on, so I really wish we could do more! I don’t think asking your guests to pay, something so nomimal is any big deal. I’m sure they’ll be happy to have the arrangements made for them!

I also forgot to mention that my friend got married at a campground last year, and we all camped for the night (some people for several nights). They paid for the group camp site. It was such a wonderful experience, such a great sense of community…in fact, it was the first wedding my fiance had been to and convinced him how fun and lovely weddings could be.

We’re looking at options with on-site lodging. Most of them include the lodging in the site fee, so, yeah, we’ll probably have to circle back and ask people to contribute if they want to stay on-site. I went to a wedding in Italy that did that… I don’t think I’ll ever get a week’s lodging in Italy that cheap again.

That looks so awesome! I can’t wait to hear how you plan to decorate and utilize the space. And the name - Choconut - could definitely be played into…I know I love chocolate and nuts!

This is WONDERFUL! It’s going to be so beautiful and fun for all you guys. And isn’t it exciting when first pick your wedding date? Such a little decision between one day or another, but it’s such a big number for the rest of your life.

We are getting married about 45 minutes from there! We are paying for lodging by renting two vacation houses. Everyone is flying (or driving really far) to get there so it only seemed fair! Great venue!

I love it!!! We have the entire farm for the weekend which provides an adorable 1 bedroom cottage for the bridal suite and a much larger 12-person cabin for the bridal party (both nights). Our bridal party is on the larger side (12 ppl) and with spouses & SOs, we’ll actually be shoving about 20 ppl in there. I figure the more the merrier! We’re having a bonfire down by the lake after the reception, so it’ll be nice to have our very closest friends staying right on the property with us.

Wow! Such a gorg location! Congrats!

Since we are having a wedding thats about 6 hours from our home, and a little more than that from our relatives (we live in VA they live in PA) we decided to put up our bridal party. Between our parents and us, we have four beach houses (one for bridesmaids, one for groomsmen, one for my imm fam and one for the Fi’s imm fam)…

I am charging my bridesmaids about $50/couple just out of the ridic price and hugeness of the beach house. The FI isn’t charging his guys but he has about half the people in his

BTW, our venue (summer camp) charged $2k/night to rent the entire site - this could hold around 65 people. We charged everyone (in a style similar to 2000dollarwedding) $30/night/person. It worked out fine for us! Have you thought about how you’re going to collect the lodging fee? (I spent quite a bit of time thinking about how to keep it as similar to a hotel-booking as possible).
