I live in a house truck and wear flip-flops more often than shoes. In my old life I was a high school Spanish teacher in love with a crazy guy who lived off-the grid on a farm in New Hampshire. But, we decided to mix things up a bit, quit our jobs and move to New Zealand. My southern hemisphere lifestyle involves growing veggies, teaching, running our small non-profit, and surfing. I love laughing, singing, playing, and the inspirational Mr. Veggie (of course!). For our wedding, I am committed to throwing a killer party that celebrates our values without breaking the bank. Look forward to an eco-thrifty summer-campy weekend-long extravaganza.

Dirty Hippies

March 13th, 2010 @ 1:20 pm by Mrs. Veggie

Now that we have a venue, it is definitely time to send out Save The Dates. I had wanted to do this in December, but it took longer than I thought to firm up a camp, and then we got really busy during our southern hemisphere summer season, and then oops! We have a wedding date and it was only 8 1/2 months away!

First step: Find a nice picture of us.

Good picture, scrubby clothes.

All pictures personal photos.

“Mr. Veggie, throw on your best pair of overalls. It’s time to get purty for some pho-tography.”

It’s nice to have amazingly talented friends who will come by your house after working all day, put up with your shenanigans, and capture you on film. Stay tuned for some shots that our friend Ross took in what I guess could be called our backyard!

Did you have a friend photograph you for any wedding events? How did the pictures turn out?

We had FH’s sister take our engagement pictures. She’s an amateur photographer (has taken a few classes in college), and overall I was pleased with how they came out. The only problem was that I felt awkward voicing my opinions about directions–she was looking to do much more formal portraits than I had envisioned. But for free engagement shots, I really can’t complain.

We had a friend photograph us with our dog and cat under our Christmas tree last December for our Christmas cards. That was a lot of fun, and though 9/10 shots had one or the other animal blurry, we also got some very cute shots. All the photos we’re doing for the wedding will be done by our photographers though, they’re great.

I actually really love the first picture!

We had a friend do a ‘portrait session’ for us since he wanted to practice with his gear, which was in effect, our stealthy epix ;)

These pictures are very cute! I can’t wait to see what this photoshoot with friends will produce!
My mom made a couple of pictures of us, and we used one of them for our save the date.

we had a friend take our e-pics @ Cali. State Capitol Park. My two kiddos from my previous marriage came along as well, and she took some amazing shots! She took tons of pics of the kids, all of us together, and separately. We have over 500 photos on CD, so it was hard to decide on one for our engagement announcement. We also enlarged one and had it displayed with a handy pen for our friends and family to write wishes on the mat at our engagement party. It is a wonderful momento. I uploaded some of the e-pics to wedding bee, feel free to check them out.

I can’t wait to see yours!!! Good luck, have lots of fun!!
