Mrs. Pencils's Picture
Mrs. Pencils, Washington DC/Frederick, MD Age and Occupation: 24, Program Director, Education Non Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Administrative Assistant, Ocean Conservation Non Profit Engagement Date: July 26, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: Morningside Inn About Me: I'm a nerdy Northwestern girl who always knew she was meant to live in the East, harboring a deep love of ice cream, underwear, Diet Coke with a splash of Coca-Cola, pashminas, scrapbooking, stationery, wall calendars and books written for preteens. I think every day should include good thin crust pizza, chocolate, an obscure historical monument, lots of laughter, a dash of wedding planning and, of course, amazing Mr. Pencils! I'm loving the adventure of planning a Maryland wedding and Rocky Mountain reception, and most of all, I just love love!
About Mrs. Pencils

I went on a wedding binge this weekend. No lie, a binge. Luckily, this binge produced some real wedding progress. With seven weeks to go, the clock is ticking and I am entirely terrified but mostly excited for our wedding day to arrive!

I took an hour or so this Sunday to create our card box. It was so incredibly easy, I won’t even tease you with the thought that it is nearly amazing as many of the card boxes we’ve seen here on Weddingbee. This is a card box for us non crafty gals. :) Here’s what I ended up with:

A Simple Project for the DIY Challenged : wedding decor diy maryland Img 33002 IMG_33002

A travel themed card box, made from two photo storage boxes from Michaels.

I suck at DIY photo-logging; please forgive me. I started with a photo box that looks similar to this one:

I hot glued the two boxes together. It was intense.

And then I held it. It was also really intense:

I took the top and tried to make a delicious looking “cards” sign. I figured this would require the hefty, industrial scissors:

Sadly, the box top was incredibly thick and I didn’t have the patience to try to meticulously X-Acto knife the words. So I copped out and used blue cardstock:

I then also made Mr. Pencils tackle the card slit. He did a superb job:

And that was it! We had a card box for our guests!

Whatcha think?

That cardbox is really cute!
And these action pictures are just too funny. :)
I am no DIY-queen, and I relly took the easy road: I just found the perfect solution in the store. First I wanted to make it more “us”, but… Meh… this will have to do.

My only question is how are you going to get the cards out? I think it’s freaking adorable by the way.. and if push comes to shove, I might to the exact same thing, just covered with something to fit our theme…
Super cute, super easy.. love it.

@Kippie: store bought is sane. good choice :)
@Mrs. D’orsay: aww, thanks!
@Ms. Library: no lie! i hate it!
@Mrs. Piglet:oh no, it continues to get worse? that’s what I thought and Mr. Pencils fears… haha
@Ella1978: haha, great question. I think when we return from the honeymoon, I won’t be so concerned with salvaging the box :)

Wait. I feel stoopid already, but I don’t understand why you superglued them together…. did you punch out the bottom of one of them?

@alvina: haha, no. they are photo boxes- so the top is already open. I superglued top to top. Does that make sense?
