Epic FAIL turned WIN

March 15th, 2010 @ 5:14 pm by Mrs. Hot Dog

OK, so I like to think I’m pretty good at DIY. There hasn’t been a project yet that I haven’t at least succeeded at doing (even if I ended up not liking it!). Last night, however, this changed.

*DUN DUN DUN*

Enter the tissue paper pomander.

All I wanted to do was create this fluffy thing of beauty like Mrs. D’orsay and Mrs. Spring Roll. Maybe it’s just me, but this little devil is NOT as easy as it looks!!

I won’t go into gory details, but let’s just say it wasn’t pretty. I didn’t even think to take any photos because I was so irked that I couldn’t get it! My “flowers” looked like nothing even RESEMBLING a fluffy flower. Even Mr. Hot Dog noticed.

“Is that supposed to be a flower…?”

“It was SUPPOSED to.”

“Well why don’t you just use real flowers?”

Good idea, hunny!

So after a couple more hours, we ended up with these:

Epic FAIL turned WIN : wedding cheyenne diy flowers 2 27 10

Well, they’re not REAL flowers, but at least they LOOKED floral! Faux or not, I think the finished product turned out lovely! I can’t WAIT to see the flower girls carrying these down the aisle!

Have you had any DIY projects turn out badly? How did you handle it?

I think your finished product looks wonderful. Love the pink and yellow combination.

My first attempt at DIy invites was, um, not so good. There was crying.

Love the floral pomanders, and the way you turned your DIY fail into a win!!! Yay!

I, too, have been inspired by the DIY pomanders. I went with this tutorial I found, and pretty much followed it to a T!

And while it took me a few attempts to get the rhythm down on placement of the fabric, they come together quite nicely!

Yay for DIY!!! and thanks to so many who came before us to offer guidance!

Yes! I have a ton of handmade flowers that I ended up not liking b/c of the fabric. But your 2nd try turned out terrific!

Awesome poms! The flowers will also hold up much better than tissue paper.
