Mrs. Hot Wings's Picture
Mrs. Hot Wings, Chicago/San Diego Age and Occupation: 28, Professor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Instructor Engagement Date: December 20, 2008 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood Restaurant About Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!
About Mrs. Hot Wings

It seems to be registry season, doesn’t it?

Mr. Hot Wings and I decided to start our registry at Crate & Barrel. I told him to take a deep breath and be prepared for it. He said he was a big boy and that he could handle it. Uh… wrong. He became the biggest baby almost immediately. He couldn’t handle it. Oh no, he just kept asking why we needed any of this. I asked him to just pick stuff and start scanning.

We had a really tough time finding things because Crate & Barrel is set up almost by style more than by type of item, and it wasn’t logical enough for us. Long story short, he wasn’t pleased with the selection, the store layout, and we were out. But before leaving, we got a little gift for starting our registry.

Pretty. A present!

It looks promising… maybe it’s some wine glasses?

Oh heck no… it was a glass heart. For what? A candle? We’re not heart people. So what do we do with this hunk-o-heart? We immediately started thinking about how we could re-gift this. Bad Wings, right?

And here’s Mr. Hot Wings thought on this first gift.

Have you gotten any gifts for registering in a store? Were they good, or tossable?

LOL! My fiance has said the same thing about the vast majority of stuff I’ve been choosing for ours. We have Crate and Barrel too, also Target and Macy’s tho about 80% of the registry is at C&B. LOVE that place! and i took him there too cuz i thought it would be fun to pick stuff out together…. and all I got were comments about how expensive stuff was and why do we need it. because we have to stock our home, duh!!! we didn’t get any gift tho, whats with that? I’m not a huge heart person either but it would have been cool…. definitely regift that thing haha!

My FI has been the same way. “Why do we need new towels? We have towels already.” UGH Driving me nuts. Do have to admit though, while at BB&B I found some beautiful everday porcelain plates with a blue vine on it and he actually liked them and they were more expensive than the others he gave the “okay” on….maybe he’s seeing the light?!

bloomie’s gave me a bunch of paper and glossies advertising something, which i promptly threw away. registering is definitely a process–i’m sure that mr. hot wings will catch the scanning bug sooner or later!

I’d highly recommend doing your Crate and Barrel registry online. They organize everything the more traditional way on the website–kitchen prep, serving, furniture, etc. Plus then they suggest other items in the same style. Now that you’ve seen some stuff in person, the website might be more useful for actually registering.

OMG we had the SAME reaction. My FI’s sister the year before got awesome toasting flutes. We were very bummed!

My FI was down the registering and came quite good at scanning. Only thing was we registered in person at 3 different stores and when I got home we had multiples of almost everything. He wanted to keep everything on the list so people can pick and choose. I however know people use a registery so they know exactly what you want. Plus, if we get 3 toasters we’re going to have to return 2 and then we’ll be in a whole new discussion… which one to keep. So, the organized bride that I am went thru and got rid of all the multiple items and kept housewares and linens at Macy’s and C&B and left fun stuff and electronics on our Target. All in all though it was a lot of fun!

We got a beautiful picture frame from bloomingdales. I did the registering online w/out FI’s help. It was just much easier that way and he really didn’t care what i registered for. lol.

We actually use our C&B Heart for our keys. We keep it right by the door, so we never lose track of them. Otherwise, it is a pretty pointless gift.

Ugh, we had the worst time at C&B. We walked in like we had done at Macy’s and Target and told them that we were interested in setting up a registry. They didn’t seem to understand that we wanted to create one, not add to an existing one so they handed me the gun and said I could start scanning. I kept trying to explain that I hadn’t set anything up yet but they wouldn’t listen and just kept telling me to keep scanning. So we gave up and left. Blech.

we got a set of heart-shaped toasting flutes from crate and barrel a few weeks ago. we thought they were horrifically ugly, but after seeing your heart dish, i can at least be grateful that the flutes are functional.

We’re planning on registering at Crate and Barrel. Guess we’ll see if we get a gift or not!
