Sensational Centerpieces

March 15th, 2010 @ 9:15 am by Mrs. Starfish

One of the DIY projects I am most looking forward to is our centerpieces! We are going for a reception room that exydes romantic beach elegance. The room will be all white with hints of gold. Candles will give a soft glow. To illuminate the room, the centerpieces will contain candles.

I have found so many inspiring photos on the web. I originally wanted one large hurricane vase, filled with a little sand, an off white candle, and a starfish. Something similar to the picture below.

Then I saw the image below and thought I must add lots of votives around the main hurricane centerpiece.

Then I saw this image and thought that I must add a few white shells at the base, with the sand. it seems like our centerpieces are ever evolving.

Lastly, I saw Mrs. Lemon’s amazing centerpieces, and it got me thinking: should we do clusters of candles? I realized at this point I had already bought the hurricane vases, so I had to let go of the idea of Mrs. Lemon’s beautiful candle clusters.

Did your centerpieces evolve over time? How many things did you add to your original vision of a centerpiece?

You and I have the same vision! I used those pictures for my inspiration board too! But I did change my mind recently and went with a low square vase with orchids or hydrangeas and tons of votive candles!

I’m having a beach wedding also and am doing something similar to your hurricane idea. We re-used the vases from my older sisters wedding centerpieces — we are putting three different sizes on each table with sand in them, shells and a candle, then scattering a few votives. I love the idea of soft candlelight.

Love the hurricanes with sand. If we were going to be anywhere near the coast, I would definitely do something like that. I think they’ll look great! We’re doing something sort of similar to Mrs. Lemons, but ours will be much taller with floating candles. Only for our head table, though.

We’re having an Asian family style dinner so I had to keep our centerpieces small and simple - luckily for me so that I can leave that wedding piece done and left alone!! haha!

We’re doing the hurricanes with the sand and white candles too with white and turquoise votives aound it. But now I need something different for four hi-top tables around the dance floor. Maybe the bubble bowls but that’s probably too similar….
Great minds think alike!

I looked at a few of the same inspiration pics as you! I was going to do the bowls with the candles, sand and starfish then decided I didnt want to do them on my own, hired a florist for the centerpieces that ended up not being beachy but beautiful. I was going to do some of my own additions to the centerpieces but again decided not to :)

Sometime I wish we were having a beach-y wedding so that I could include shells with everything :).

Okay, are all beach brides starting off with the same inspiration ideas? Our centerpieces are a variation of the first photo. I love all the websites out there… such a vast array of photos and ideas to think about. I love your 2nd photo… might rethink the head table to looks something more like that!

Love them all! You could always have 2 or 3 versions and mix them throughout. That way you could use the hurricanes you already have and still use the multiple candles on a table as well. Homegoods usually has great clear glass.

@Julie:
You can purchase starfish and seashells on Save-On-Crafts website. I have also seen bags of shells sold at TJ Maxx and Marshalls.
