Mrs. Argyle's Picture
Mrs. Argyle, St. Louis Age and Occupation: 24, Project Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Pilot Engagement Date: February 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Jewel Box in Forest Park and Windows on Washington About Me: I'm a true Midwestern girl (born and raised), lover of red wine, reality TV and the entire J.Crew catalog. I love to dance regardless of who is watching, and enjoy a good laugh with my girls. I have a soft spot in my heart for planet Earth, my two dogs and my fiance. Fall is my favorite season (which is why we are marrying in September), but I love a warm summer day and the Colorado mountains in the winter. We are planning a modern soiree downtown, with lots of bold colors, and fun, eco-friendly elements.
About Mrs. Argyle

Conquering Crate and Barrel

March 16th, 2010 @ 11:42 am by Mrs. Argyle

Mr. A and I have been waiting until after this past Christmas to register (see: why you need an olive pitter). Once the New Year rolled around, we waited for the perfect opportunity (i.e. an open weekend) to register and signed up for one of Crate and Barrel’s Wedding Registry parties. Now, why’d we do this? One reason – you get the store to yourself. Well, sort of. You get the store to yourself in the sense that the only other people in the store are other engaged couples registering, too (so about 25-30 people max). AND, you get food and mimosas. Score.

So, armed with my registry spreadsheets (you read that right), our scanner and my camera, we took off and started scanning away.

The next two are the obligatory “quick—pick something up and pretend you’re shopping” shots.

Yeah, flatware!!

Mr. A after two hours of conquering the C&B. And, for the record, he really enjoyed it. There are no horror stories of him dreading every second.

I’m not exactly sure how many items we registered for, but it was a good enough amount of items. And, we left with a gift in hand: two heart-shaped champagne glasses that I have NO idea what to do with (similar to Miss Hot Wing’s heart-shaped glass dish). If you want them, let me know (we surely don’t).

I did manage to make my way over to Williams-Sonoma (with my second registry spreadsheet in hand) later that day to finish up our kitchen registry alone. The Mr. definitely was not feeling browsing the kitchen goods – this was not his area. This is unfortunate for him since I got to pick out the knife set. I hope he likes white-handled Wuesthofs!

How did you tackle registering? Was your SO present on all of your registering trips?

We haven’t registered yet, but registering at Williams Sonoma for kitchen items is a great idea! Thanks!

Yes. He was reluctant until I armed him with the scanner. I was fine not scanning b/c I got to do a lot of the registry selection! Looks like fun!

Wuestofs are amazing. My fiance’s dad got him a set for christmas last year. I went home last week and used my parents knives and thought “my god how did i live like this for so long!” I love our knives.

aww.. free food. I really want to see these heart shaped flutes I keep hearing about. I mentioned it to Mr HW and he said that might have been fun to break or something. He’s strange.

We had fun registering but it was definitely stressful, trying to make decisions about things! And it was annoying how all of a sudden, Mr TM had opinions on things like flatware…I was like, really, now is when you pick to get incredibly picky about this stuff??? Grrrrr, men!

We went the easy route and registered for everything online. Ah spreadsheets, a girl after my own heart.

You had a spreadsheet? Like everything you wanted to make sure to scan or to find items that filled the gaps for the house?

We went to BBB and did the rest online. It was a ton of fun, but completely draining at the same time. I still need to finish my registry at C & B, but I’m waiting for birthday gift cards.

We do most of it online. For the initial registering, Mr. Starfish was there, but online I do little additions here and there when I realize we forgot something. I should have been more prepared like you and your spreadsheet!

@alivoo01: WS was a must for us! It was that or Sur la Table, but the fiance’s family is from a smaller town and wouldn’t know what it is!

@Miss Hot Wings: Keep your eyes peeled for those heart glasses - I’ll have to share!

@Miss Trail Mix: Haha - he was only picky about one or two things, luckily. I pretty much had a set list that he was happy to stick with.

@Miss Nachos: Spreadsheets pretty much run my life!

@Curlysue, @ColorCoated: Yup! The spreadsheet is divided by store and what we wanted to register for at each store (3 total). And, I have one sheet that was a list of everything we currently have, stuff we want to replace and new things we want. I know, a but OCD.

@Miss Starfish: Once we start to have showers and such, I’ll fill in gaps and add to it, but it was nice to actually go through the process in the stores.
