I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!

Faux Flower Faux Real?

Faux Flower Faux Real? : wedding diy flowers san diego 12 IMG_2033

Remember our large wedding party including 8 Wingmen, 8 Hottie Women, and 2 Little Wings? One consequence of a large wedding party is the number of bouquets and boutonnieres you’ll need. I quickly decided that I could DIY some bouts, perhaps even from faux flowers.

Gathering supplies was easy.

The Hot Wing home has more crafting goods than most homes ought to have. But when you’re planning a wedding, this can be a treasure chest of goodies. I collected all items from around the apartment. The bouts were pretty easy to make. You can find instructions from Miss Hot Dog and Mrs. Lamb.

Here’s what I made:

I made dear Mr. Hot Wings put on a jacket so I could test run the bout. He use to resist my silly picture requests. He’s learned that blogging requires a crap-load of pictures, so he now just says, “yes, dear.”

The big test came with Mama Hot Wings. She might find faux flowers to be tacky. But given our super long and full day of weddings, I thought a faux flower would hold up better through hugs and August summer heat. I emailed Mama Hot Wings these pictures to see what she thought. FOOLED! Completely. She absolutely thought they were real and was right on board with having the Faux Flowers… Faux Real!

Have you had to “trick” anyone to get them on board with your ideas?

My guy wasn’t sold on using faux flowers. I just kept showing him pictures, until he was just giving this two cents on the colours & type flowers, completely forgetting about his real flower wish. Ghihi.
