Vintage Family Wedding Photos

March 16th, 2010 @ 12:04 pm by Mrs. Trail Mix

I love the idea of displaying photographs of our parents’ and grandparents’ weddings at our wedding. I think it’s a really sweet way to honor the two families coming together and to give a face to those who can only be with us in spirit.

I’m in the process of tracking down the pictures from each of our grandparents’ wedding days as well as both of our parents’. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get all six, but I’m going to try my hardest. My FMIL emailed me the scanned versions of two out of the three I had requested and she is still on the hunt for the third (Mr Trail Mix’s paternal grandparents’ pic seems to have gone AWOL).

Here are the two she sent me:

The top photo is Mr Trail Mix’s maternal grandparents’ wedding photo and the bottom is of his parents. Look closely: do you notice anything similar about the two dresses? Well, they are one and the same. FMIL Trail Mix wore her mother’s dress for her wedding; how lovely (and cost-effective) is that?

I’m also particularly digging Maternal Grandmother’s colossal tiara (would that be called a crown then? Whatever you call it, it’s massive!).

I’m hoping after the wedding to take these two pictures, along with the third one that is still missing, and frame all three along with a picture of the family from the Trail Mix wedding. It’s a nice, symbolic way to honor the many weddings throughout the generations of the family, don’t you think? And of course, I’ll do the same for my family as well (although we’re not sure if we can find a wedding pic of my paternal grandparents, research is still being done on that one…). I’m picturing a long, rectangular matte with all four pictures, from oldest to newest set portrait-style.

Will you be displaying family wedding photos at your wedding?

Such treasures! I wish we could have done that but my FI’s parents are divorced and so it was a touchy subject….

sounds like an awesome idea and great family keepsake to keep passing down through the generations - just make sure you right down everyone’s names in the photos for the future!

What a great idea! I’m toying with the idea of doing this as well. ;)

Oh and totally on the tiara - it’s awesome!

We are planning on doing this as well - I’ve put my mom in charge of getting all the pictures…hope it turns out. After the wedding, I’d really like to take the pictures and put up a display of family wedding pictures in the house. Love it!

PS - the tiara is spectacular! Love it!

We’re doing this too! I have photos from my parents and both sets of grandparents already. Along with some of my aunts and uncles. And FH’s sister got married in 2008, so we’ll include a photo from their wedding. Now I just need to contact FMIL to get photos from that side of the family!

I love this idea! My family has lost a lot of old photos from a house fire, but I would love to do this if we could track down enough photos!

I would love to do that, I don’t think anyone wants to go digging through the boxes in my parents’ basement to find them though!

p.s. love the crown :)

I wanted to do this idea also, but the only vintage wedding photos available are from my parent’s wedding.

Love the idea - we’re actually doing this with all of our married family members and members of the bridal party. We’ve got a bunch of fireplaces/ledges at our venue so we thought they’d be a great way to decorate!

I love this idea and I really wanted to do this but my fiance’s parents are divorced so I think it might be in poor taste. But they were in love at the time! Does that count? Phooey.

I love this too! We’re doing this - so far I have the pics of both sets of my grandparents, my parents and a cousin’s pic from the 1930’s. My FI’s parents are also divorced so we’ll only be using his grandparents pic and maybe his brother’s.

We did this. ALthough we used an anniversary picture for my grandparents that eloped. We also used an anniversary picture for his grandparents from Lithuiana as there are no wedding pictures for them. It turned out great there was a low counter in a hallway just off our main Reception room that was perfect for these. The only problem was that I ran out of time to make labels for the pictures.

We’re doing this!! I have all six photos and they are in mismatched vintage gold frames. I love old photos and family history. Good luck hunting them all down!!

WE are incorporating photos of both sets of parents and all 4 sets of grandparents. Our grandparents don’t know about it, and I think they will feel very honored by it.
