An optimist at heart, my motto is to turn your "what ifs?" into "so whats!". My fiance is a radio producer and the biggest Cubs fan you'll meet - our apartment decor definitely shows it. Sorry, I sat here for 10 minutes trying to come up with a clever title to this post with no luck, so that one pretty much sums up the last 10 minutes of my life I won’t get back.

Anywho, on to the subject at hand: wedding reception slide shows.

Have you ever gone to a wedding reception where the couple plays the longest slide show they could have possibly put together? You know the one - unless you are in at least half of said pictures, you <yawn> start wondering if anyone would notice if you made a bee-line for the bar.

Well…

I’m actually making one of those slide shows. But it’s OK! We aren’t going to make everyone sit and face a screen in a dark room to watch for 3 hours, it’ll be playing on the TVs overhead throughout the whole party. Yep, 3 whole hours of slide show. If people want to glance up at it once in a while and see some smiling faces, then great! If they’d rather talk to the bartender all night, that’s fine, too. (Ahem, cough, losers, cough.)

So I started putting together a nice long slide show in PowerPoint, starting with the clip of us from our home movies when we were little, adding a bunch of pictures of us, (obviously), pictures from my parents’ wedding, and some good ones of me and/or Mr. N with various peeps that will be at the party. The fun part is that we’ll have our wedding photos to add!

The not so fun part…

Brain Fart : wedding decor photography st thomas Unscanned unscanned

… is that I still have to scan all of these.

Are you planning on displaying pictures at your reception? Are you making a slide show or getting more creative?

Ugh, all that scanning was the worst! I am making one, in iMovie and I have really enjoyed making it. I really like that part at a wedding actually so I hope people like it at mine.

I hope you can share the finished product with the Bee!

I love the slide shows and will be doing one as well. i like your idea of doing it throughout the reception. We may put it on a laptop and put it by the guest book table. Not sure yet. I’m not looking forward to scanning all the pictures either.

We are doing one as well. It will be projected for people to watch as they choose. I’m not looking forward to the scanning and am not sure which program I’m going to use. What program are other bees using to put the slideshow together?

we’re going to have a photo montage too! but like you, won’t be making it like an ‘event’ during the reception for everyone to sit and watch - rather something playing on a loop in one of the parlor rooms next to the bar on a flat screen. It will probably get the most viewing during cocktail hour

Did you know that you can take a box of up to 200 photos to most drugstores (Walgreens, Target, WalMart, CVS, etc) and they will put the pictures on a CD for you for $10? Might save you some time!

@caro0104: You may very well be my hero, I had no idea they’ll do that! Gotta make a phone call to Walgreens now….

Good for you! I am still toying with that idea. Currently I’m considering instead doing a mini collage of us at the guestbook station, but I can’t decide if that is better or not. Plus it’s hard trying to narrow down the pictures I want to show!

I’m the total sap who sits there and sobs at the slide shows, even if I barely know the couple! I LOVE them!!!!!!!

We will be displaying our photos from the wedding since, like you, we are having a destination wedding and then a home reception. Nothing too fancy though, just a slide show on the laptop that will run all day and people can look when they want.

We’re going to have one playing in the back ground. There’s a cool program called animoto that I used- way easier than power point!

Ditto to Miss Sewing and you! I’m having a slideshow, but it’ll be playing in it’s own little area so I won’t bore my guests with it! I’m also thinking about putting some of those digital frames around certain areas instead of one big slideshow.

WOW! That’s a lot of pictures and you’ve got a big tast ahead of you! It should be fun though!! I totally dig the idea to have it streaming throughout the night! I thought the slideshow was supposed to be at the rehearsal dinner though… I really like the idea of having it at the reception!!! Thanks!

We definitely aren’t. I don’t really want THAT much focus on the two of us but I know that many people really enjoy slideshows. After the ceremony, our reception is going to be much more about our guests.

I had a slideshow at our wedding off in the corner by the dance stage. I included lots of pictures of our family and friends too so it wasn’t just all pictures of us.

We plan on having a slideshow, but I’m going to delegate that to Mr. Lace who likes to spend hours on end in front of the computer.

We’ll be in a garden, so a slideshow isn’t feasible. Instead, we’re making simple little photo books & leaving them on the cockail tables. People can flip through them during cocktail hour if they choose to. I wish we could have a slideshow on loop - great idea!
