Mrs. Hot Wings, Chicago/San Diego Age and Occupation: 28, Professor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Instructor Engagement Date: December 20, 2008 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood Restaurant About Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!

Deal or No Deal… Say What?

Deal or No Deal… Say What? : wedding bridal shower san diego 13 deal-or-no-deal[1]

What the heck does Deal or No Deal have to do with wedding planning? Nothing! Until one day last summer when Mr Hot Wings and I were back in San Diego visiting my family. I left the house for 2 hours to run some errands, and I came home to find that Papa Hot Wings, Lil’ Bro Hot Wings, and Mr Hot Wings had been BBQing, drinking beers, and planning our wedding reception entertainment. Brother Hot Wings was convinced that Deal or No Deal would make for great entertainment. He thought it would be fun to watch the newlyweds make their first decisions as a married couple.

Say what?

Are you kidding me? I’ve done all this planning and you think you can just take over our reception entertainment? But Mr Hot Wings thought I was being a square about it and convinced me to just let him try.

So,I said he could try. I would require a full-on run through during the winter holidays. I’m civil and modern. We could put it to a vote at that point.

You see, Brother HW has lofty goals. Some he reaches, and others really are just talk. I figured by New Year’s Eve the idea would have died. But I was wrong!

By the time Christmas came around, he showed us this!

Holy crap! We were going to have to play Deal or No Deal at our wedding.

The Future In Law Hot Wings’ came to San Diego to do some wedding planning and spend the New Year with my family. (Cute right?) Little did they know, they would be evaluating Deal or No Deal: Wedding Edition.

First contestant: Auntie Hot Wings (in burgundy). Notice Cousin Hot Wings sitting on the floor by the computer? Oh yes, there is a formula! The banker does not make offers at random. Brother Hot Wings created his own formula for how to make deals!

Contestant #2: FFIL Hot Wings

See FFIL Hot Wings standing by the window? He started getting really into it. And Brother Hot Wings fed off of the energy. Brother HW is a total ham.

As FFIL Hot Wings was thinking, Brother HW jumped to FMIL Hot Wings to get her opinion. See her on the sofa with the short hair? She said, “NO DEAL!”

And the banker began to squirm when the deal got a tad too high. Oh yes, they played for real cash. Well actually… they scaled the $1 million winnings down to a $100 max prize.

Everyone had a blast! It was ridiculously funny and easily transcended language barriers. He’s now DIYing a large game board for our reception. I still can’t believe we’re doing this!

Are you providing any non-traditional entertainment at your wedding? Did anyone have to twist your arm to do it?

Oh how fun and I love that everyone was getting into it :) I think this’ll be too fun! I think you should send photos and maybe even a video of the game to the actual Deal or No Deal people and who knows—maybe Howie will have you come to the show?! :)
