Falling for Fine China

March 17th, 2010 @ 3:18 pm by Mrs. Jellyfish

A few months ago, we went to Macy’s to start our first registry. We had a lot of fun, but boy was it time consuming! We spent two hours there and only registered for 18 items! One of my favorite parts of registering was looking at all the pretty china patterns! I definitely want to get some fine china, but it’s going to be a tough decision. Here are some of the patterns I like so far (all images courtesy of Macys.com):

Royal Doulton “Everlasting” – this was Mr. Jelly’s favorite and I liked it a lot too. It’s simple and I like the little knot detail around the rim (it might be hard to see in this picture but look at the center of the teacup rim). From Macy’s website: “Delicate chains and polished platinum bands put the finishing touches on premium bone china dinnerware from Royal Doulton. Classic and understated, Everlasting is the ultimate accessory for today’s formal tables.”

Lenox “Opal Innocence” “This classically designed line of dinnerware is accented by a platinum rim and a delicate flourish of vine-like white-on-white imprints with raised, iridescent enamel dots.” It’s very pretty and slightly bridal-y.

A nice way to commemorate your wedding, methinks.

Mikasa “Parchment”“Clean, cool and marked by an understated elegance, Mikasa’s Parchment fine china dinnerware features a soft gray border embellished by an intricate scroll design. Accented by inner and outer borders of platinum. Dishwasher safe.”

What was that? Dishwasher safe? Hmm…

Monique Lhuillier for Royal Doulton “Etoile Platinum” –“Taking cues from her renowned bridal gowns, designer Monique Lhuillier presents this fresh, fanciful and delicately detailed dinnerware collection. In sparkling pearlescent china, each border features three rows of glossy raised dots and a fine stitch-like pattern. In a sophisticated, neutral linen hue.”

So maybe I can’t afford a Monique Lhuillier wedding dress, but how about some Lhuillier fine china? I don’t like the teacups or teapot though – let’s just say the shape is not my cup of tea. Falling for Fine China : wedding pleasanton registry Icon Sa03 :(

Martha Stewart Collection for Wedgwood “French Knot”“This lacey design was inspired by an antique transferware place setting. The innovation of copperplate engraving was ‘transferred’ to pottery in the 18th and 19th centuries, newly allowing fine details to be rendered on ceramic glazes. The luminous fine china French Knot dinner plates are encircled with delicate filigree patterned bands. Accent plates are intricately laced with a border-wide network of tiny filigree dots, like a deft hand-embroidery, or an exquisite Tønder lace.”

I love the teacup on this set. So vintage and adorable.

Royal Doulton “Precious Platinum” –”Set a sumptuous table with luxurious Precious Platinum dinnerware. Intertwining platinum lines and raised, dotted accents create a sophisticated, segmented design.”

This one is my favorite right now. I like how it’s modern yet timeless. I also love how you can buy different colored accent plates for this set.

Those were just my favorites from Macy’s. Who knows what will happen when we visit other stores! Are you registering for fine china? What pattern did you pick, and why?

Ooooh, I love your taste, Jellyfish! We chose not to register for fine china, but if we had, I’d totally go with “Everlasting” by Royal Doulton. It’s so classic, but the form is unique enough to add a little bit of whimsy!

My vote’s for the Royal Doulton “Precious Platinum”. So chic and modern, but yet a hint of vintage!

I love the “Everlasting” pattern, too! We decided not to register for china, but these are so lovely they make me reconsider!

I loved Opal Innocence but I was afraid that given the cost of it that we would get no where near a complete set. So I went with Mikasa Parchment, it’s really pretty, dishwasher safe and with Macy’s sales affordable. We got all but a few serving pieces. I used our wedding cash to complete the set.

I love that Mikasa pattern, too, but geez, the SALE price at Macy’s is the same as the everyday price at Bed, Bath and Beyond! And you know BB&B always has those 20% off coupons, too…..

OHH… this was by far my most agonizing registry choice!
I wanted some personality but classic enough for heirloom status someday… After loving some of the Vera Wang patterns, I ended up in a final hour choice going for…
Waterford Padova!
It had quite a few accompanying pieces (which a lot of the Vera sets didn’t) and has a pretty accent plate to satisfy my desire for SOME pizazz

Congrats! I hope you get lots of your china! Did you register for special silverware? or are you in inheriting any?

Yes Macy’s sale prices are the same as B&B’s regular prices. But on the Mikasa Parchment Macy’s had a larger 8 piece place setting set that came with additonal bowls and an additonal serving piece. It went on sale at least twice for more than 50%. Macy’s card holders could also use the 15 or 20 percent coupons that Macy’s constantly has. I also got cash back on any registry purchases. Also, since I missed the reistry completetion event that occured the week after my wedding the registry consultant clued me into a upcoming friends and family 25% off sale that includes most items on my registry. These are usually Nov. and April and guest could take advantage of those. Always comparison shop. Somethings we did better on at Macy’s and other things we did better on at BBB.

I fell in love with china before I was engaged and when he FINALLY popped the question, it was the first thing that I told him about. We’re registered for Lenox Chirp.

Those are all so pretty. I registered for my China at Bed Bath and Beyoned they were way cheaper than the ones at macy’s, so I figured people would more inclined to buy them. I registerd for the Lenox Chirp collection. Its china with a edge and thats more my style!

Man - now I’m remembering why I almost chose the Everlast pattern! We ended up registering for the Wedgewood Platinum Sygnet.

I love china! We would be registering for it, but my fiance’s mom has some that she is giving us that I really like. I could probably find some that I like better, but I’m not gonna complain, since it’s free!!
