Pressing Decisions: A Loss

March 17th, 2010 @ 5:19 pm by Mrs. Scissors

In my initial letterpress post, I wrote about Boxcar Press, and how they were such a joy to work with. All of my communications were through their Office Manager and Client Coordinator Carrie. She answered every single little crazy question I ever asked, and believe me, there were a whole slew of them. She knew the ins-and-outs of the whole process, and helped me not to feel like such a clueless bird.

Sadly, Carrie passed away on March 13th due to an automobile accident that also claimed the life of her fiancé. You may find more details on Boxcar’s blog, as well as information on the trust set up for her 4-year-old son. My heart goes out to Carrie’s family and the Boxcar Press staff.

Out of respect and concern for their press, I have switched printing companies. My order was not yet “ordered” as I was waiting on a final quote. This was not because of any slips on Boxcar’s part, and I still am on the Boxcar cheering team like woah, and hope to work with them in the future. I just thought that one less iron in the fire might help lighten the load.

my heart goes out to them-and that was a good idea on your part to switch companies. it may be more expensive, but your right-lightening the load is probably much easier for them right now.

I’m sorry for their loss as well. I also had been in contact with Boxcar Press and they are some of the nicest and informative people to work with, as many others have experienced. My feelings, however, are that best way to support a company such as Boxcar during this time is to give them more business instead of taking it away. Let them be the judge of their workload and what they can handle, in times of difficulty or not. They are still a business, and I’m sure they will find ways to grieve that will not impede on their professional responsibilities.

That’s such a sad story to hear and they leave behind a 4 year old. =(

I also agree with photoist in regards to deciding to go with another press. They have been so helpful from the start that they deserve your business. =)

Such a sad story… I don’t even know her but hearing about it over the last few days has really affected me

@Miss Spaghetti and @photoist: I think it’s understandable to decide to go with another vendor when Miss Scissors is under a time crunch, and their business is (very, very understandably) probably at a standstill at the moment. It does not mean that they weren’t helpful or that she doesn’t wish them continued success after they recover from such a devastating loss.

just sayin'

So tragic but I think your idea is flawed.
Unless you now feel like there’s some kind of ‘bad juju’ or they are out of your budget…taking business away is NOT helping them.
