Mrs. Argyle, St. Louis Age and Occupation: 24, Project Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Pilot Engagement Date: February 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Jewel Box in Forest Park and Windows on Washington About Me: I'm a true Midwestern girl (born and raised), lover of red wine, reality TV and the entire J.Crew catalog. I love to dance regardless of who is watching, and enjoy a good laugh with my girls. I have a soft spot in my heart for planet Earth, my two dogs and my fiance. Fall is my favorite season (which is why we are marrying in September), but I love a warm summer day and the Colorado mountains in the winter. We are planning a modern soiree downtown, with lots of bold colors, and fun, eco-friendly elements.

Crate and Barrel Conquered Us?

March 19th, 2010 @ 2:53 pm by Mrs. Argyle

Definitely not. But, as I mentioned in my last post, we left with a free gift. Mr. A’s guess was a set of champagne flutes. I told him it couldn’t be, because the box didn’t look big enough.

After registering, we grabbed a bite for breakfast at First Watch (drool), and then headed home. It was then that we decided to open the bag and box (which looked just like the same bag and box Miss Hot Wings received).

So after wrestling with green tissue paper, and tape on the box, we found these “beauties”.

(More on those lanterns in a future post)

So, I know I should be grateful for a free gift. But heart-shaped champagne glasses? Totes not feeling it. So, they sit on the counter. I don’t know what else to do with them. Give them away? Then I’d feel like a total elephant-gifter.

So, hive… what should I do with these things? Do you have any creative ideas as to how to turn them into something useful?

No idea what to do with them. Goodwill and take a tax deduction.

I vote RE-GIFT! ;o) Orrrr…. maybe a vase? You might not notice the heart shape with a pretty bunch of flowers in there?

Well…would you want to use them for toasting at your wedding? (I’m guessing no…) Goodwill sounds like the next best thing.

You could turn them into a christmas gag gift that gets passed around each year…

heehee… are they big enough to be a bud vase or something like that? They actually look a tad better than I thought they would.

I GOT THESE TOO! I couldn’t believe it! There’s so many wonderful stylish things at Crate and Barrel… except these :)

But using them as a vase might actually work, thanks!

@jgoulart: Good thinking on the vase.

@farmersdaughter: Definitely not using at the wedding - we had something else in mind for that, haha.

@Miss Hot Wings: They aren’t terrible, but I really think C&B could have chosen something more practical.

@Mrs. French Bulldog: You can totes have them - send me your address lady. They have never been used!

They actually would make really good flower vases. If course, I say that because unlike Mrs. French Bulldog, I have an aversion to heart shaped thing (I was a child in the 80s during the rustic, everything had a heart on it phase). If you fill them with flowers, you wouldn’t know that they had the odd shape to them. I think that they look more like pilsner glasses anyway. How odd of C&B.

I’ve been thinking about this some more. Isn’t it harder (i.e., more expensive) to make heart shaped glass than the regular round glass?

They aren’t that bad! C&B was nice to give a free gift. I vote mail them to Frechie, so they can have a home that loves them :)

ugh, we got these too. we could not understand why they would give away something so unattractive — i guess because they’ve clearly already convinced us to register? we used them the other night to toast to my birthday, and you can’t even clink them properly — they just kind of clash in a dull, plastic-y way. i guess i should be grateful that they’re functional as we broke our other (attractive) crate & barrel champagne glasses during our move.

You could totally use them for your table centerpieces (if you are having a sweetheart) or to adorn another table - perhaps the bar or guest book/gift table. Otherwise, maybe one of your hardest working bridesmaids might like or just donate it, or regift it.

I think someone might already have mentioned this, but you might be able to use it as candle-holders. Are you going to be using a unity candle? If so, you might be able to stick the two thinner candles in there, instead of having them stand on their own.

@Miss Hot Wings: Good point!

@AMO Bride: We are appreciative that we got a free gift, I just feel that C&B should be a bit more generic in their gifting. I get the whole “we’re in love thing” but heart-shaped everything is crazy! I won’t throw them away - we’ll figure out something to do with them.

@bridgetjones2010: Haha - glad I’m not the only one. I’m thinking we’ll give them away - or send them to Frenchie if she really wants them!

@thebriz: The thing is that hearts have no place in our wedding - they wouldn’t make sense at all, haha. Otherwise, we could re-purpose them for something.

I like the vase idea. We registered at c&b a year ago, and our gift was even worse - a heart shaped glass candy dish. I don’t even know what we did with that, probably goodwill. I am with those of you that have an aversion to things with hearts on them.

wow, they’re free!
gee whiz! i was as incredulous with the other free-gift post. i never understood how anyone could complain about a free gift. oh well.
no offense, but it just seems off somehow!
