Hitch Up the Trailer

March 19th, 2010 @ 9:19 am by Mrs. Pretzel

When Mr Pretzel and I decided to put off Hawaii until next winter we started to brainstorm ideas for a minimoon in the Pacific Northwest. There is so much beautiful country to be explored right in our backyard. We toyed with the idea of a camping road trip and got very excited when our eyes landed on this image on the pages of Sunset Magazine.

Ohhhh shiny! Ummm yes, I want me one of those. Apparently Mini teardrop trailers scaled down and airstream-esque are a travel trend for 2010.

These trailers have sleeping accommodations for two and the back hatch opens to make a covered kitchen area for food prep. Bare-bones but more comfortable than a tent, Mr Pretzel and I thought that this would be a great opportunity for adventure and some snuggle time. Seriously, feast your eyes on this shiny retro goodness.

How enticing is the idea of camping but with the comfort of a bed? Usually not too enticing to me—I like old-fashioned camping in a tent. But for our honeymoon I can easily picture snuggling up next to the campfire with Mr Pretzel then retiring back to our “trailer” at bedtime. The images above are from Vacation in a Can, a teardrop trailer rental and sales outfit. I quickly checked out their website and was disappointed to find out that they are out of Southern California. Booo… Mr Pretzel and I won’t be hitching up the trailer anytime soon but we’ve been talking about investing in one after the wedding, though. So my shiny trailer dreams aren’t dead yet—just postponed.

Would you consider a camping adventure for your minimoon? Anyone else in love with the retro romance of these teardrop trailers?

This sound so much fun! FI has this old Lazy Daze camper from 1987. Some of our best memories are roadtripping across the US in it. Hope you can find another option for your minimoon.

I have wanted one of these for such a long time! There are teardrop clubs and they all meet yearly. I would love to be able to see how each one is decorated on the inside.

<3 Teardrop trailers!

This is such a cute idea and so retro! We are looking to do a “mini-moon” also as we won’t have the funds or the time (as will be finishing up my PhD) for a full on honeymoon. =) We were thinking about renting a little cabin somewhere to do some hiking and biking (future hubby loves off trail biking…)

Wow!!! Thanks for sharing-this is an awesome idea. The Co. is located in an ideal area, you can just hop on Hwy. 1 and pick any beach, and you are good to go!

Can’t wait to rent one of those for our next trip to Mendo.

Enjoy!!!!

I’m not a camper, but this to totally HOT! MIL and FIL Swan have a vintage looking tricked out Airstream, which is also pretty cool.
