Happy Engage-aversary!

March 20th, 2010 @ 11:20 am by Mrs. Trail Mix

Before I talk about the really fun and awesome night Mr Trail Mix surprised me with for our engage-aversary, I have to reveal our dirty little secret… neither one of us can remember the actual date of the proposal! *blush* He thought it was one of two dates while I thought it was a completely different date. So, for anyone out there reading this, I highly recommend making a note somewhere of the damn date you got engaged!

Anyways, like I mentioned before, Mr Trail Mix surprised me by planning a whole evening for us to spend together. I walked into the apartment to flowers and an anniversary card…

He only got me one flower because I’m leaving tomorrow to go on vacation for 10 days. How thoughtful (and cost-effective).

The card may or may not have involved flatulence…

Flowers and fart jokes? Gee, Mr Trail Mix, I guess you know me pretty well after all. :) But it didn’t stop there; he had made reservations at an Italian restaurant for dinner and then splurged on two tickets to a comedy show at Caroline’s, a famous NYC comedy club. Well-played, Mr Trail Mix, well-played, indeed. We had a great night and laughed our patooties off at the show (John Mulvaney, a writer for SNL, was the headliner. HE.LARI.YOOOS!)

I also have to say that this is not customary behavior for Mons. Mix. For example, on our 5-year dating anniversary back in November, he suggested we go watch the Miami Dolphin’s football game at Dive Bar (yes, that is the name of the bar. We’re classy like that). When he suggested that, I laughed to myself, thinking, ’What a lame cover for the real fabulous anniversary day you have planned for us, I better play along so as not to ruin the surprise,’ and agreed.

Um, can you guess where this story is going? It turns out that that was his real plan. Let’s just say it wasn’t pretty…

So, mad props, Mr TM, for going all out on our engage-aversary! To many more fun anniversary nights out in our future!

What’s best thing your man’s done for you on an anniversary? I have to admit that this one is pretty high up on my list!

That is so sweet!! Our engage-aversary was yesterday! He went to Dallas to spend time with his guy friends, but in his defense, I encouraged him to go before the wedding and we’re running out of weekends!

We actually both forgot our 5-year dating anniversary. Terrible, eh?!
Oh well… :)
Your engage-aversary sounds wonderful!

On our first anniversary of dating, he took me to Paris. Granted, we were living in London at the time and it was pretty easy to get there. But he’s never topped that first year!

awww. so cute. I particularly love the card because that’s something that Mr. HW and I would definitely get for each other. heehee. The best thing was last year when that Mr. HW surprised me with a cupcake for breakfast on our date-versary. It was totally awesome that he knows me THAT well and let go of his “but this isn’t healthy” antics. Happy engage-versary Trail Mix!

I love Dive Bar! We used to live like 3 blocks from there and I miss it. We haven’t done much to celebrate our anniversary, though on our one-year we found out we were moving across the country together. Of course, my ideal date probably would be something like going to watch the Dolphins… as long as they lost to the Jets.

Don’t feel bad about not remembering your engagement anniversary - we don’t even have one! There’s the day he “asked my dad” (and my dad told him I do whatever I want anyway). After that we started telling work people and bought a ring, but we didn’t tell his family or anyone back in New York until a couple weeks later. I tell people there was no proposal or special moment… more like a gradual process.

Thats so sweet! My guys best move on an anniversary was asking me to marry him (he proposed on our five-year dating anniversary.) He’s done his share of forgetting too, though…in fact, he forgot our engage-aversary (no excuses for him, considering that was the same date we’d been celebrating for years!)

This year, Mr. HD finalized the guest list AND did the dishes for me while I had to work late… What a guy! ;)

That is a very sweet engage-aversary! Love that he recovered from the 5 yrs watching a football game! We done really go out any place but we get each other a special gift for our dating anniversary. But since we have been saving for the wedding, last yr we just got each other really nice anniversary cards.

On our first dating anniversary we ended up getting each other the same card and they werent even from the same store! He was out in Pittsburgh for work when he bought his and I was at home when I bought mine!! ♥

Last year, Mr. Library was studying abroad in Russia for three months when our engagement-versary rolled around. He waited until it was business hours on the east coast, found a florist by my school, and had a dozen red roses delivered to be at work day of. The card inside read, “From Russia with Love.” Love him!

What a great guy (especially considering that he redeemed himself from the earlier anniversaries).

Thank goodness there is someone else out there who does not remember the exact date of their engagement! Neither of us can remember either. I just know it was one of the last days in January…maybe we should celebrate the whole week?!

Don’t feel bad, the only way we know the date we got engaged is because it’s the same day our alma mater beat it’s rivals in football! I even had to look it up for when I made my “time line” STDs! :)

Happy engage-aversary! I guess he learned a thing or 2 since the dive bar days. Tell him the bees will be expecting big things for your 1st married anniversary. =p The pressure’s on.
