Mrs. Ribbons's Picture
Mrs. Ribbons, Washington D.C./Bloomington, IN Age and Occupation: 23, Research Associate for an international development firm Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Proposal Coordinator for contractor Engagement Date: May 2, 2008 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: Indiana Memorial Union About Me: I'm an Indiana transplant living in DC with my fiance and our pretty kitty. I enjoy the color pink, I'm obsessed with the Dior New Look and tulle, and I heart my level 80 paladin. I'm a sucker for bad TV, literary theory, and cakes of all persuasion. I also happen to be marrying the cutest closet nerd around! It's all about Bloomington for us because it's where we met -- on the college paper. If there's a theme for our small summertime wedding, it's Dior meets Dorothy Draper on a lark in Bloomington; think poofy, plus graphic prints, bold colors, and a whole lot of prettiness.

And More Cupcakes

March 21st, 2010 @ 4:45 pm by Mrs. Ribbons

It was a little cold after we stood outside in front of randomness, so we took shelter in a subway station, with Shannon from Fromage Photography snapping away.

And More Cupcakes : wedding bloomington engagement pictures 1 1

That was my displeased face. Here’s my happy face. Aw.

And More Cupcakes : wedding bloomington engagement pictures 2 2

But as is wont to happen in a subway station, the familiar smell of pee became a bit too much and we headed out into the strangest park I’ve ever seen!

And More Cupcakes : wedding bloomington engagement pictures 3 3

There were top hats. And person-shrinking dominoes.

And More Cupcakes : wedding bloomington engagement pictures 4 4

Have you ever played the game Sorry? I’m not a fan of that game. But alas, there was a Sorry piece, too.

And More Cupcakes : wedding bloomington engagement pictures 5 5

As our time with Shannon was drawing to a close, we stopped for one more treat: duh, cupcakes, at Philly Cupcake.

And More Cupcakes : wedding bloomington engagement pictures 6 6

I loved this experience for two reasons: meeting Shannon, who is adorable, and getting comfortable in front of a camera. We acted as naturally as we could—we’re pretty awkward folks—and it definitely seems to translate well in pictures. If you have a chance to do an engagement session, do it!

Did you find any strange backdrops for your engagement pictures? What were they?

Have I mentioned that I love your coat? Because it’s gorgeous!

So, as an equally camera shy, awkward type, how did you loosen up in front of the lens? Any tips? we’re getting our e photos taken soon.

@lilyfaith: Well, at first we were just giggling because it was totally strange to have someone photographing us. We also narrated what we were doing to make it feel like we weren’t posing. Like “We’re sitting on a bingo piece. Look at that building. My, that building is large.” It helped, seriously!
@Mrs. Mouse: I’m pleased you caught on :)
@Miss Pudding: I told him you said this, and he said, “as long as no one compares me to Ross from Friends, I’m happy.”
@tea: I have no idea, but I think it’s a pretty prominent park!

Those giant dominoes, chess pieces and top hats are out of this world and are so cool to be used as props for your photo shoot! That’s a great idea to have the shoot at that place. I bet it made you feel like “Alice in Wonderland?” Great outfit too, love the photos!!!
