Mrs. Turtle's Picture
Mrs. Turtle, Central California Age and Occupation: 21, Art Student/Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 22, English Student Engagement Date: August 16, 2008 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Mr. Turtle's Grandparents' backyard, Arroyo Grande, CA About Me: I am a California girl who loves the beach and the mountains, but is quite satisfied living right in the middle where I can enjoy the best of both worlds. I am happiest when traveling to faraway places, wandering through museums, watching old movies, or baking up a storm. Mr. Turtle and I are high school sweethearts and fellow book nerds who both drive Mini Coopers and are most likely to be found browsing in antique stores. We're having so much fun planning our European garden wedding with a vintage twist and can't wait to share more of life's adventures together!

Saying Yes to the Dress

March 22nd, 2010 @ 3:57 pm by Mrs. Turtle

Dress shopping was one of the aspects of the wedding planning that I had looked forward to the most, but being among the first in my group of friends to get engaged, this new kind of shopping was totally foreign to me.

I began by collecting some inspiration pictures, of course! I had no idea what I wanted, but this is what I started out with:

Designer: Douglas Hannant

Designer: Monique Lhuillier

Designer: Caroline Herrera

I know what you’re thinking: I was ALL over the place! I totally agree. What I did manage to gather from my inspiration pictures is that I wanted something with a sweet, vintage-y, romantic vibe and interesting texture. You have to start somewhere, right?

Well, trying on dresses ended up being SO much fun, and I have to admit that I’m sad the search is over! The first two times, I chose to only take my mom and Mr. Turtle’s mom with me because I didn’t want to be overwhelmed with opinions. The third time, my dad and Mr. Turtle’s dad came along to take pictures and give their input. I tried on every style of dress imaginable in order to figure out what I liked best. Here are pictures of some of my favorites:

I loved trying on all of these beautiful dresses, but did not end up getting any of them. I hate to disappoint you, but I am not going to be posting a picture of my dress until after the wedding! I ended up getting my dress from a wonderful little store called “Down the Aisle” in Arroyo Grande. I had a great experience there and would highly recommend it to anyone!

Once again, I apologize for the suspense, but since multiple people I know read my blog, including Mr. Turtle, who stops in once and a while, I really want to keep it a surprise! I’ll give you one clue though: the dress I chose has also been the choice of another bee.

Any guesses on which dress/dress style I might have chosen? What were your dress shopping experiences like?

You tried on some really gorgeous dresses! Do you remember the dress in the photo (your photos) 5th from the top? It is awesome! Very simple yet it flatters your figure SO well. As someone who is more rectangular-shaped than pear-shaped I’d love to try it!

I’m sure you picked something great, but I have to say the 5th dress in the sequence that you posted of your try-ons basically knocks it out of the park. It seems to be made for you!

Those of you looking for the designer of the third dress, I totally can’t remember! I’m going to try to find out for you though!
And if you’re interested, the last dress is “Reese” by Maggie Sottero!
