It seems as though, when planning a wedding, once you cross one item off of your list, five more crop up in its place. One of my newest items to figure out? What the heck to wear for our engagement pictures.
Yes, ’tis true — we’ve been engaged for 18 months and we haven’t had our engagement pictures taken yet. Well, actually my sister took one set right when we were first engaged, and they turned out fabulously. Want to see a couple?

Yep, I told you — they’re awesome. So, with this one e-pics session behind us, we weren’t really super focused on doing another one. But since our wedding day photographer included this in our package (and since we really do need to get more comfortable being in front of a camera) I think our second e-pics session will be good practice for our wedding day. You know, if only we could figure out what the heck to wear.
We’re having them at the end of April, and the weather in Wisconsin at that time can be… variable. It could be 70 and sunny; it could be 40 and windy and spitting sleet. I know that we want to have one more “formal” look and one more “casual” look. I’ve figured out that for casual look we’ll probably be in jeans, t-shirts, and sandals (if it’s not sleeting, of course). This is pretty standard “us” apparel, so I’m not really worried about what I’ll wear for this portion — probably my favorite jeans, a t-shirt that I pick up along the way somewhere, and my comfy sandals from American Eagle. (Yep, I rock the same footwear that 13-year-old girls do. What up.)
It’s the other portion of our program—the more “formal” portion––that’s throwing me for a loop. I’ve looked high and low for a cute dress to wear (preferably one that could work double duty as a dress for my bridal shower) and I’ve struck out. I want something springy, possibly with a slight pattern, that fits me well. Oh, and I’d really prefer for it to be affordable — under $100 would be ideal, but if it’s the right dress and I can use more than once, I’d consider stretching the budget. The other problem? Everything I’ve seen is either too matronly (I look like I’m a 45-year-old woman) or too much like something out of Seventeen Magazine (I look like I’m channeling Miley Cyrus). I’m at a loss.
So, hive… I turn to you — what are your clothing standbys when you need to find something cute? I’m finding that the more I look for something to wear, the harder it is to find it. Isn’t it always the case? When you’re not looking you’ll find 800 fabulous things that you really don’t need. But when you need to find something, you strike out left and right. It’s Murphy’s Law for shopping.
What are you wearing for your e-pics?
