Searching for Shoes: Part 1

March 23rd, 2010 @ 4:16 pm by Mrs. Turtle

Back in December, right before New Year’s, I got a very exciting, totally unexpected call that my dress had arrived! (I had been told to expect it in February!) Originally, when I had imagined receiving this phone call, I pictured myself hurrying to the dress shop to be reunited with my dress! Instead, I spent almost two weeks walking right past the store with Mr. Turtle on our way for some morning coffee, often saying things like, “How weird is it that my wedding dress is sitting right through those doors?” Or, “Hi wedding dress, I’ll see you soon!” Sigh…

The reunion had to wait, because there was just one important detail holding me back. To go try on my dress for the first time, I had to bring my shoes! And sadly, I had none. (Well, technically I have tons of shoes, but not the shoes!) I hadn’t bought any yet because I was supposed to have a couple more months, right?

So the shoe search began!

As much as they tempt me in every bridal store with cute little sparkly white heels, I’ve known from the beginning that I want to wear pink shoes! Like, amazing, cutest-shoes-I’ve-ever-seen-in-my-life pink shoes. I’m normally not the kind of girl who splurges on crazy designer shoes, but my original thought process was, ’If I’m going to wear a pair of Christian Louboutins, Jimmy Choos, or Manolo Blahniks in my life, wouldn’t my wedding day be the day?’

These were my first love:

Designer: Christian Louboutin, Style: Mount Street

I’d been checking in on them on various department store websites for months, even going so far to stalk them in other peoples’ weddings.

But one day, I went to admire them, just like any other day, and they were gone! Disappeared! Nowhere to be found except eBay, and as much as I love eBay, these shoes were a lot of money to spend with a chance that they might be fake, dirty, or who knows? Plus, if I’m going to splurge, I definitely want the whole fancy shoe buying experience! Guess they weren’t meant to be…

Aside from my beloved pink, petal-y Louboutins, I could not find another shoe by a premium designer that I even liked in pink. Seriously, try to find light pink shoes right now. Is pink out of style this season or what? I decided that I would have to save this purchase for another life milestone…

I casually began browsing the shoe section of all of my usual favorite stores. These are some of the contenders I found:

“Crystal Kaleidoscope Slingbacks” at J.Crew

“Starla Pumps” at J.Crew

Searching for Shoes: Part 1 : wedding central ca shoes Badgley1 Photobucket

“Randee” by Badgley Mischka

Searching for Shoes: Part 1 : wedding central ca shoes Bournem1 Photobucket

“Micha” by Bourne

And then, Christian Louboutin came out with these two beauties in pink, but honestly, I wasn’t sold on either of them for the wedding. As much as I’m dying to wear those fuchsia glitter pumps, they just do not go with my wedding day look:

Oh decisions, decisions… but at least shoes are fun! Soon, (I promise!), I’ll tell you about the next step in my search for my wedding day shoes!

Did you decide to splurge on a designer pair of shoes for your wedding? Did you end up finding something you loved? How was the buying experience?

Pink Petals - SWOON!!!!!! I too loved the CLs but I just couldn’t justify the cost. I ended up with Corrine by Martinez Valero in white (looks very similar to the CLs) and have been debating on dying them pink.

Can’t wait to see what you picked.

WHen I started my shoe hunt I was convinced I was gettin some Louboutions…or Manolo’s. As I obsessively looked for shoes, the brand name started to be more important than the actual look I was going for. I really couldn’t find anything that was perfect. Then I semi-downgraded to Stuart Weitzman and the like and was obsessed with those for a while..still nothing spoke to me…I finally while looking for shoes for my BM’s found a pair of BCBG @ Nordstroms for like $95. When I saw them I KNEW! it didn’t matter the designer, the price, or where I bought them-I was like these are it! And that was that!

Those are all really lovely. I chose a designer who does shoes pretty much inspired by Loubs. I love them. Wish they were real, but oh well :)

It was a huge pain in the butt for me to find my perfect shoes, and in the end I just went with the “best I could find” that meshed cuteness with practicality and comfort. I desperately wanted hot pink shoes, but couldn’t find any “off the rack”, so I bought dyeables and had them dyed. I love them. I felt that I would wear pink shoes (in as much as i ever wear heels, which isn’t too often) way more than I’d ever wear ivory shoes, so I went for it. Didn’t spend a fortune (just can’t bring myself to do it for shoes), only $68. It took 4 months, but I’m very happy with my choice! Good luck!

Love the pink shoes! I am stuck with having to wear 2.5 in heels so I can’t wear most of the awesomely stylish shoe designers like Louboutin!

I absolutely love the pink petal Badgleys, saw them in L&T the other day and loooved them!

Try shoesbycolor.com - it’s linked to zappos and gives you tons of color/shoe combos. It’s one of my favorite sites - and there are loads of light pink pumps!

I bought those pink petal Christian Louboutins! Your original favs! I got them shipped from China from a website i found through Perezhilton.com! Now im not so sure if i want to wear them! Soo many fabulous shoes to choose from! But they were only $150 CAD and as far as i can tell they’re real and in great condition! Let me know if you want the website address.

@flamingred: I can totally identify with that! I found myself getting way to into the designer name rather than the shoe style! I had to start asking myself, “Would I buy these Louboutins if they were from Target?” And most of the time, the answer was no… Don’t get me wrong, I did see some gorgeous designer shoes, but none that were pink!

@Ada: Oooh, pretty! Those are the closest imitations I’ve seen yet! I would have been all over those, but I already have my shoes so no looking back now! Someone else, please buy these!

All of your above choices are lovely! I splurged on hot pink Kate Spades, but I will definitely get a lot of post-wedding use out of them (that rationalizes it, right?).

I splurged on Zanottis, and then realized my perfect shoes (Jean-Michel Cazabat) had been bought by my 24-year old self, shoved to the back of the closet and never worn! Ah well, c’est la vie. The Zanottis will go to some fabulous party someday!!

I love love love the Badgley Mischka “Randee.” So pretty, I just want to touch them. I wore silver and found some rockstar inexpensive shoes, but I wish I had thought to buy a designer pair, because I’ve always wanted a nice pair of shoes with a real name. But I doubt I’ll ever buy a pair now. You’re so smart! Your wedding is the perfect day to splurge and wear designer heels.
