Mrs. Hot Wings, Chicago/San Diego Age and Occupation: 28, Professor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Instructor Engagement Date: December 20, 2008 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood Restaurant About Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!
About Mrs. Hot Wings

Shutterfly Us Please

March 23rd, 2010 @ 2:26 pm by Mrs. Hot Wings

Many many bees have had success using photo sharing cards like Mrs. Lemon, Mrs. Cream Puff, and Miss Cheeseburger to name a few.

There are many services that allow you to share pictures including Facebook, Flickr, and Shutterfly. I considered Flickr and Shutterfly. Ultimately, I ended up choosing Shutterfly for the following reasons:

  1. They create a website with a web address (e.g., http://hotwings.shutterfly.com)
  2. Unlimited uploads daily
  3. Free!
  4. Full size download of all images
  5. Guests do not need to register for an account
  6. Owner can control privacy, guest ability to download, edit, or delete photos
  7. Includes video service

Following after the lead of other bees, I created this using aspects from our invitations:

You’ll have to wait to see the final product because they haven’t gone out yet. Consider this a tease. I’ll leave these in thank you cards with the favors.

Shutterfly Us Please : wedding photography san diego Photosharingcards Thumb PhotoSharingCards

They’ll be business size. Would you change or add anything?

Anyone else doing a photo share? What criteria helped you decide which service to use?

I think this is a great idea - though I know for me I’m still fiddling with how I’m going to do it.

Yours looks great!

Oooh, even though I’m a diehard Flickr person, I think this sounds like a better idea for wedding stuff! I want to do that!

I’m big on Flickr too, but it sounds like shutterfly might be a better option (especially since its free for unlimited uploading! Wow!) I used to have an account and thought you couldn’t have unlimited full size downloads, but they must have changed that since I used to use it (years ago.) Bravo!

Just want to say that whatever site you choose– this is a great idea. We got some of our favorite pictures from our guests uploading their photos on our site.

we’re using snapfish actually - we just made an account that we’ll tell everyone to login with and upload with a folder under their name - this is a great idea and your card looks great!

I just played around with the shutterfly site and its AWESOME. To add to what Miss Hot Wings said, you can also write “journal entries”, create a calendar, and a message board on the website you create. You can also choose from different templates for the site and put pictures on the main page to make it look really nice. And its totally free! I probably won’t use all of those features, but its really neat.

I’d love to do something like this but I wouldn’t want a friend of a friend to somehow get access to the site to download photos. If a person wants a photo (including us), I assume everyone has to purchase it? And can we control downloads?

I’d rather go this route than have a bunch of folks put stuff up on facebook (it’s one thing if you do it, not as fun when others tag you in a bunch of photos), but I still want to control who sees what (especially if folks didn’t upload anything and want to merely “collect” images). Thanks.

We are also doing a photo share- I will be including the info along with our favors. I am thinking to create tags that will attach to our favor boxes, or maybe stickers. I am also thinking Flickr or Shutterfly (I use them all the time for photo books, prints, etc)

I didn’t know Shutterfly’s site had this many options. I just created a site on Shutterfly to see the options it has and there are almost as many features as “wedsites” like WeddingWire and TheKnot!

@farmersdaughter: I totally forgot to mention that since it wasn’t a “must have” for us, but it’s true. The website templates are pretty awesome. I love that we were able to include our pictures on the front banner of the site.

@thebriz: Yes! I was concerned about this too. So this is a feature of shutterfly that isn’t available with the Flickr route. You can absolutely control who downloads your pictures. You can make it totally public OR make it so people can only upload and you be the only person to download. Or you can invite specific people to do both. It’s totally up to you! This is actually a new feature they just released this year. I found it pretty impressive. OH.. and I should also say, you can password protect the site… which we did do.

I just created a site and then logged off and tried to upload photos as a guest would. It asked me to sign in as a member before I could upload photos.

I really liked the idea of guests not having to create a membership as you described, so maybe I am doing something wrong. Any thoughts?

@sarahd07: Yes. As the owner of the site, you need to go through your options and uncheck the box that requires uploaders to be members.

How are you handing these out to your guests? I’ve been trying to find a good way to do this… with the favor, part of the program, separate business card at each table, etc.

@sarahd07: I figured it out just for you! If you’ve already allowed permission, just close the box that asks you to sign in! It’s just there to get people to sign in if they have an account. But you can totally just close that box and get into the site to upload without an account. I’ll have to note that on our cards!

@amaroo24: I think we’ll include them in the favors since our favors include a card. I also think I’ll put the info in the program just in case. I didn’t want to put cards on the table b/c it might seem like advertising.
