The Bird is the (Final) Word

March 23rd, 2010 @ 2:45 pm by Mrs. Sewing

A while back, Mr. Sew and I made a bunch of cranes for no real purpose other than to fulfill tradition. They are technicolored, and while I thought about re-folding or spray painting them, I decided to take the sage advice given last time, and just leave them as-is.

Now: what will we do with them?

I’m thinking of decorating our ceremony place up a little with them. Maybe we could hang them from the pews?

It might make for some fun, colorful photographs.

Or maybe we could have a curtain of cranes as guests walk into the reception?

Any other ideas?

I bought a bunch of glass pearls from Fire Mountain Gems, and started stringing them all up.

Two birds, one pearl, two birds, one pearl.

Forty birds per strand, for a total of 25 strands.

Mr. Sew used some metal wire to create little hooks for the end of each strand.

And he made an adjustable cardboard “shower curtain rod” for them should that make attachment easier.

Another project bites the dust! Box it up and ship it off!

What would you do with 1001 cranes at your wedding?

Oh, I think they’d be great hanging up as guests enter, particularly if you can space them out a bit. They’re so fun!

They’re gorgeous! They might make a fun backdrop for a faux-to booth.

We’re making bunting-type garlands out of ours and stringing them across windows and tops of doors. Yours look amazing!

I’m going to be hanging ours (folded in our wedding colors) from the gazebo at our ceremony location! Instead of doing the traditional 25 garlands of 40, I need 6 bunches, so 166-167 per “bunch.” And I have a certain length I have to work with, so I’ll deal with that when the time comes, too. They’ve been folded a while, but are at my dad’s house, so I can’t string them til May! =(

I like krissybee’s idea of a photobooth backdrop if you’re going to have one! Otherwise, a curtain for guests to walk through (or even if they’re parted for the guests) would be gorgeous, and the technicolor wouldn’t take away from the rest of your reception decor!

I like the idea of hanging them at the reception entrance just as long as no one has to walk through them or they may get ruined. Can you tell us what the significance of 25 rows of 40 is?

Wow, those turned out great. I like the idea of hanging them where the guests enter or the above posters idea for a photobooth backdrop.

We are thinking about making them too, but only if we really have a place to use them. I was thinking of stringing them up along the brick wall that leads to my parent’s backyard. I have to think about it.

@slicey19: no significance whatsoever, actually. :P I think normally they are in strands of 50 each, but they just happened to come out at 40..lol
