About Mrs. Cheeseburger

You Want a Cookie?

March 23rd, 2010 @ 4:35 pm by Mrs. Cheeseburger

You guys know by now that we’re having a candy buffet/cookie table hybrid. As Mrs. Deviled Egg mentioned, cookie tables are pretty much staples at Western Pennsylvania weddings. Mrs. Bruschetta also told you guys that they’re requisite parts of Italian weddings. So, when you’ve got an Italian girl from Western PA, you best believe there are going to be cookies. Lots and lots of cookies!

Since arriving back at my homestead, Cheeseburger Mom, Cheeseburger Sister MOH and I have made quite a few cookies. Luckily, I received my stand mixer from my fantastic bridesmaids, so we got to put it to good use!

What have we made so far? First on the agenda, pizzelles. I was doing such a good job helping out, that I was able to take all of these pictures ;) :

We’ve also made chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal, and Italian orange cookies (most definitely not their actual name). Then we’ve got family and friends making snickerdoodles, M&M cookies, chocolate cookies with cream cheese icing, and ladyfingers. We’re also buying my favorite black & white cookies from Kribel’s and some smiley cookies from Eat N’ Park - two Pittsburgh staples, at least in my family. :)

Currently, we’ve made almost 70 dozen, and it looks like we’ll have at least 30 more before it’s all said and done. I think this is a ridiculous amount of cookies, but Cheeseburger Mom assures me that there will be no leftovers. Phew! We’ll see :)

Any other cookie table brides out there? How many dozen cookies are you having?

Oh I love pizzelles! They are so delicate and delicious :) That is a lot of cookies but what a wonderful variety and I also doubt there will be leftovers. Guests taking home extras as favors or anything?

I’m planning the same - candy/cookie/brownie/ table… and we tried pizelles but how did you manage to make them so that none of them were too big? ours were either all falling over the edge or way too small… is there a specific measurement?

Also, how are you storing them?

The pizzelles look great! And, including Smiley Cookies is a great idea! Wish I would have thought of that!

Oooh Pizzelles!!! I love those. You guys did an excellent job on cooking them to perfection! My baba taught me her recipe last year and I made 14 dozen for xmas…

@everlong: I’m not sure how cheeseburger does her amounts but we usually just put a small ball in the center. It never fills the entire mold but looks just as nice. As for storage, I once found a pack 6 months from when my baba made them and they were still as fresh the day I got them. She stores them in packs of 12 in foil then puts that in old metal cookie tins. You can also ship them if you stick them in foil and then put that inside of clean cardboard milk containers. =)

I had a cookie table. We also had some things on it like homemade buttercreams, chocolate covered pretzel and a chocolately peanut butter chex mix.

@everlong: good question! Cheeseburger mom takes two small dinner spoons and drops a small ball (like maybe 1-1.5 inch diameter) in the middle - hope it works! As far as storage goes, I kept the wax paper pieces inbetween, as they sometimes stick together and then break… then I wrapped each dozen with saran wrap and put them in airtight containers :)

@Mrs. Deviled Egg: they are my FAVE :) I’m excited!

@Emilie: omg!! you MUST order them :) My mom sends me them on holidays… right now they are bunnies for easter! :)

I think I am going to try to make/buy a dozen cookies per person at the reception. I’ve been to weddings where I have only eaten a few cookies but have seen others (especially little old ladies wrapping them in napkins and putting them in their purses!!) taking well over a dozen cookies. And I am thinking that people will take a lot home because of the bags we are going to give out. Hopefully we will be able to make most of them esp. ones that can be frozen, and I’ll just have to buy the more time consuming ones like gobs.
Smily cookies from EnP is a great idea too, I might have to “borrow” that one!

I love pizzelles, and I love that you’re using traditional anise flavoring. We had Italian cookie favors and two plates of cookies on each table for our wedding. I made 9 dozen and Mom made 12 dozen for 75 people. We were inundated with leftover cookies for weeks. I did freeze many of them and enjoyed them throughout the year.

Keep in mind that not everyone has a sweet tooth, we had so much left over cake and cookies. Given this, I would say 2 or 3 per person will be plenty–perhaps 3-4 for a light cookie like a pizzelle.

LOL I haven’t heard of pizzelles since I left PA. (now in TX). When we went back east for Christmas mom just had to buy some.
