Dreaming of a White Wedding

March 24th, 2010 @ 3:44 pm by Mrs. Taco

My wedding dreams started recently. They’ve been a lot of the usual, thankfully without any catastrophic fights or reconsidering the exes. I’ve been thinking about this wedding for eight months now (dear god! eight months!), and it still strikes me as strange that the dreams didn’t start right away. I have dreams about all kinds of unsexy things like work and deadlines, so it was almost a nice change of pace.

Dream 1:

This was a basic, uh-oh-I-forgot-to-do-something-huge dream. In real life, I bought a sample dress at a sample sale, from which I came out with Perfect Dress and zero black eyes. However, the dress does need to be taken in quite a bit, it being a sample and all.

In the dream, I forgot to get it altered. Straight-up forgot. But I put it on, with the help of my bridesmaids (I couldn’t see anyone clearly, so I figured it was them). And they clipped it up as best they could. The telling, nice part was that I didn’t entirely freak out. I looked at it in a mirror and, while it was a little off, Dream Me still felt like it was the prettiest, most perfect dress in the world.

The verdict:

Awake Me shakes her head at the inexcusable behavior of Dream Me (where’d all those lists go, Dream Me??) and is confident the same won’t happen in real life. But Awake Me feels validated at how even Dream Me kept her cool and loved her dress, in spite of the uh-oh.

I’m not hugely decisive by nature, but a lot of the major decisions thus far have been a snap. Dream Me agrees, it seems?

Have your wedding related dreams been mostly you in a panic, or you remaining calm? Do you think that speaks to how you feel in real life, or do you think dreams are just dreams?

I had bad wedding dreams (nightmares?) at the beginning of the planning, but they have gone away. Funny though, FI has been having bad wedding dreams two or three times a week!

I have recently started have wedding nightmares - not so much dreams. I have actually told my friends I don’t want the wedding of my dreams because they have been horrible. Things like forgetting the dress, and other items and not being able to get to the ceremony. But the one saving grace to all of this is none of them have been about my FI - they are about the details ect so even my subconscious is 100% into marrying him

So far, my wedding planning mirrors my real life to a T!

For example, the dress. I thought I wanted a Medieval gown but ended up with lace all over. Similarly, I thought I wanted an Italian guy my age who had never been married before and with no kids, whereas as soon as I started interacting with a middle aged American guy who had been married twice and had kids, I thought “that’s him”.

All my important decisions are instinctive, they just come out of me and I never regret them.

So basically I live my life stumbling into things and people and either having the “this is the One” feeling (like, the One partner, the One friend, the One rental, the One dress) or I flirt around till I stumble upon somebody or something that gives me that feeling.

The real blessing is that I’m as organized in the how-tos as I am instinctive in my decisions… the best of both worlds, IMHO.

I had a wedding nightmare a couple of weeks back, but I think it was due to me going to sleep upset/emotional over something I can’t recall. Since then and prior to that, no wedding dreams or nightmares… We’ll see how that goes as the date gets closer!

I’m glad I’m not the only one!!! I recently started having wedding nightmares too! They’re all a little different, but with the same theme… Forgotten to-do items! My fiance and I have been engaged since Christmas ‘07 and we’ve had all the time in the world to dream and plan….
In my nightmares, the planning never got around to doing!!! The ‘best’ one was where we had to have my mom bake a Betty Crocker box cake mix for the wedding….

haha I had a dream that i forgot to get my dress altered as well, except I wasn’t so happy about it in the dream. I had also forgotten to buy a strapless bra, so I was walking down the aisle with a strapless dress and a bra with straps on!

Horrifying. Just….horrifying.

OMG I just had a dream two nights ago that I totally forgot my dress. That I showed up to my wedding, all done up and was like “dang, I CAN’T BELIVE I forgot my DRESS!!!”. Then the next night I had a dream that I forgot to make final arrangements with the florist, just straight up forgot to do it, so she didn’t show up and I wasn’t even that mad about it, I just had my bridesmaids and guest picking flowers around the church. Who does that!?!? I haven’t told anyone because I didn’t want people to think that I am going bridezilla crazy with wedding dreams now, but I have to say it is really nice to hear that others have been having the same dreams. I was starting to think I was going crazy…

How funny that you should write this post as I just had a I-forgot-something-huge dream last night. It was time for the ceremony to start and nothing was decorated or set-up at the venue, I was not dressed, all of my DIY projects were undone, and my photographer was mereily snapping photos as I was freaking out. YIKES! I have yet to have a calm or pleasant dream…only nuptial nightmares!

God these weddings will drive the whole lot of us mental! Lol!
We’re 4 months out, now, and he’s having the dreams now. I talk about the bloody thing all day, so I guess my subconscious is happy enough to switch off at night!
The cute thing is that, in his anxiety dreams, it’s only the finances that bother him… as in, nothing’s done, no food, no music etc… but he’s standing up at the altar, happy as Larry to be marrying me! Let’s try stick to thinking about the important stuff!

I have had so many nightmares, mostly of stuff out of my control, not that I am a control freak or anything. The hard part is trying to convince my fiance that it’s not his fault when I am in such a bad mood in the mornings.

The worst one was dreaming of the dj playing gloria estaban’s “Turn the Beat Around” instead of the playlist I selected, and my mom saying oh see this is exactly what you wanted right, I told you it would work out.

Thank goodness my mom in real life thought it was funny.
