Mrs. Taco, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 29, writer/editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 37, editor Engagement Date: May 13, 2009 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: The Green Room at the War Memorial Veterans Building About Me: I like laughing and talking with good friends over good food and good drink, be it wine, cocktail, or brew. I write and edit things for fun and profit, but I rarely "write" these days without a keyboard and high-speed internets. Favorites include Mr. Taco, my Boston terrier, San Francisco, getting out of town, and the Roaring ’20s. I was kind-of planning a wedding since roughly 2006, when I discovered "Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?" on the WE channel. I ran and didn't look back with a theme I called "urban vintage," and it culminated in the most magical day a taco could ask for.

Color Me ______

March 25th, 2010 @ 2:59 pm by Mrs. Taco

Burgundy. Color me burgundy.

I run straight for everything roughly this color, especially wine, Manhattan cocktails, 2 sweaters, 1 hoodie, 2 t-shirts, and 1 snow jacket (off the top of my head). It was an easy pick for me, but I know the decision has triggered cold sweats and anxiety for some.

My florist said burgundy goes with everything and nothing at the same time, so running with something and owning it is the best way to go. (I like where this is going.) Sage green and burgundy go surprisingly well together, according to my own two eyes and every designer I consulted with to make sure. And the Green Room being, well, light green in hue, it’s lucky it does. Green will make an appearance our BM bouquets, and I’m really excited to see Amy’s designs.

I mulled over silver as a secondary color, then decided it would look too much like a sporting event. Not to mention that, marrying into a Texas Longhorn family, an event covered in the Texas A&M palette wasn’t going to fly!

Wedding colors seem to be a combination of both your favorite color and your favorite color to look at, which is not necessarily the same thing.

But there will be more of it than the bride, in all honesty. The girls will be wearing it. It’ll be on the fellas’ ties and in the flowers. It’ll probably make an appearance on the cake and napkins. Picking a color that flatters everyone should also be considered, I think. No pressure or anything. Still, going with your gut and then finding a color that’ll complement it (instead of battle for the spotlight with it) seems like the best way to go about it.

The color geniuses at Pantone said turquoise was the color of the year, and it ain’t half bad, having been a guest at a turquoise-and-brown wedding myself.

Would you purposely stray toward or away from a color that got chosen as a popular color this year?

Haha, as a Texas A&M alum, I totally see how that could be a problem :). I guess Texas A&M families don’t really have the opposite problem…burnt orange for wedding colors? Yikes.

I tend to prefer things that aren’t super trendy at the moment, but if it’s something I’ve always loved, I just ignore the fact that it’s trendy and use it anyway. Also, I’m with you all the way on burgundy. It’s a gorgeous colour.

It depends on whether I like it or not. If I like it, I’d stick with it. Be yourself first, and look at what others do later… I mean, you don’t want to deprive yourself of something you like just to play original, right? Be who you are!

Oh man, maroon at a UT alum’s wedding is probably going to be hard. :)

Burgundy (Garnet) and Gold with a touch of Black were my wedding colors! We loved them!! But it might have a little something to do with our favorite school… :)

I was a tad sad when I saw that Turquoise was the choosen color this year since that’s our color. However, it’s been easier to find things in our color probably for this reason.

I love burgundy! Colors confuse me, so I just kinda fell into ours (midnight and gold..and cream. I think?)

We chose our colours when we got engaged in December of 2008. Royal Blue and bright yellow. Then when the popular wedding colours for this year rolled out, that combo was one of them… oh well! I’m not going to worry about, it’s not like I’ll be going to a bunch of weddings this year with the same colours as ours.

Make sure you emphasize it’s BURGANDY (not maroon)! ;)

I love burgundy, but…… HOOK ‘EM! :)

OK, college football aside, I’m with you on that color. I wanted to use it, in fact, but apparently my FI hates all iterations of red. Who knew?

Turquoise is my color as well, although I did pick it last June! I’ve had a few people tell me that and I think it is funny. But I agree with Miss HW, it has made things easier to find!

I saw a BM dress in a magazine in Clover green and fell in love with it so that is one of my wedding colors. My other favorite color was blue, but for some reason, stuck with the green. My accent colors are cream and silver. Hopefully, my girls won’t hate me for sticking them in the green dresses!

We went through several color palettes and the reason we changed our mind was because they were too “trendy” and we wanted to stand out. First we were black and turquoise (which as you mentioned was a very popular color even last year), then black and pink (also a hugely popular combo), and finally we landed on black and lilac. We knew we wanted black b/c we wanted the girls to have an easy time finding a flattering and reuseable dress. I will agree with some of the other ladies, life would have been a lot easier had we stuck to black and pink because EVERYTHING seems to come in that combo, but black and lilac has been a challenge. Only now that Easter is around the corner have we had much success finding things in lilac. But we really love our color scheme and it’s meaningful to us, so we’re ok with the extra hassle!

@alivoo01: There is nothing wrong with green, as a sage-green subcolor-haver myself :D

I think it’d be pretty awesome if you stuck with A&M’s color palette. ;)

Burgundy’s my favorite color too, and that was our primary wedding color, along with black and slate blue, with touches of silver and ivory as accents =)

Gig ‘Em Aggies! Although I love A&M, maroon won’t be in our wedding. FI’s uncle said he plans to wear burnt orange to the wedding. Not too sure how that will go over with all the Aggies at the wedding ;)

We went with Navy and apparently everyone is in newport. Every vendor we have told has made comments about it, but it’s our favorite so we are going with it regardless.

We totally need to meet up for the next Texas game. All of Mr. PT’s family went to UT!
