I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.

Nervous Tummy?

March 25th, 2010 @ 1:41 pm by Mrs. Frozen Yogurt

So, I was sitting at work and 9:30 rolled around. 9:30 is the normal time that my stomach is grumbling and ready for my mid-morning snack. I always have an apple or some sort of fruit on hand in preparation for this time. However, today 9:30 passed without that grumbly tummy. Then, 12:30 came, still no grumbly tummy. What the heck is going on?? Oh, right, nerves and butterflies.

I know they always say that you start to drop weight as you get closer and closer to your wedding. Although this has not been the case for me, I can see now why this happens to people. I’m so freaking anxious right now that I can’t even eat! I know this will pass, and maybe today was a particularly stressful day for me, but wow, the butterflies are constant!

There is nothing in particular that I’m stressing about; I think it’s just the big giant thing on the horizon that we’ve been planning for over a year and is about to take place. How can I not be nervous? Of course I know things will go wrong (and hopefully no one will notice), and I will have an amazing day, but I can’t help but feel a wee bit anxious about it. There are projects that aren’t finished, decisions to be made, and checks to be cut. But, I do find some comfort in the fact that after all of this, even if things go wrong, I will still be happily married to Mr. Fro Yo, and that’s a great feeling.

Is anyone else starting to get that nervous tummy?

I’ve just started feeling it more, but I am generally a nervous person so I was pretty sure this would happen sooner or later. I had a pretty bad bout of nervous non-hunger when we had trouble booking the honeymoon flights, but that went away within a week, thankfully. I am just hoping I can hold on as things get closer!

P.S. Thank you again for your post on beta blockers awhile back. I finally had an appointment with my doctor this week and she thought it was a great idea for me at the wedding. I never would have known about these without your post!

@rachel_leigh: Aww, good! I’m so glad! Yep, I have my prescription ready to go for the day of. I even used it for my bridals. :)

i was totally cool, calm and collected leading up to the wedding…until the day before. i woke up with a massive tummy ache, turned to my fiance, and was like “omg, we’re getting married tomorrow!” the knots didn’t relax until the ceremony was over!

Not yet, but I’m still 2 months out. Talk to me in a month and I will probably tell you a different story.

I get like that! We’re still too far from the wedding for me to have wedding-related jitters, but I forget to eat in times of stress, or I just don’t feel hungry. My coffee addiction only makes it worse!

I’ve been living on beef stew (for some reason, Campbell’s Sirloin Burger just soothes me right down), saltines and diet 7up (even though I’m eating less, I still don’t want all those empty calories). And sometimes some sugary goodness feels okay. And I’m still quite a ways out!

Unfortunately , I had the opposite problem. Nerves cause me to eat.

I’m a generally nervous person, but even at my worst, I can manage to scarf down some food. Umm, NOT the days leading up to our wedding! I was a wreck on the day of our rehearsal (when it hit me - I’M the center of attention, gah!) and our wedding day morning. I couldn’t eat at our rehearsal dinner or the morning of the wedding. I started to feel light-headed after taking pictures, and I had to go find some fruit because it was all I could even think of keeping down. It all went away after we walked back down the aisle, though.

I wish I had read your beta blocker post before our wedding! It probably would have helped :)

Miss Fro Yo, I’m sorry to hear that you can’t even enjoy lunch, but I’m happy to hear that you are super excited! I’m starting to get excited… and I’m almost 3 months out. I’ll feel much better and relax a little when the invites are done! But you are getting close! I’m excited for you!!!

LoL at katrinab’s post - not to be mean, but I think I will be like that! Our date is pretty far out, but when exciting events happen here and there (took e-pix this past monday) I get excited (momentarily)!

I think I will definitely be having a nervous tummy as our wedding draws closer — we have so many exciting events coming up (e-pics! showers! bachelorette party!) that I’m sure I’ll be getting butterflies.

To my month twin, you are not alone! The alterations lady told me NOT to lose any weight before the wedding or my dress will be too big. I liked hearing that months ago but now I’m nervous it might happen! I totally lose my appetite when I’m nervous or stressed.

Less than five months out, I’m currently playing the hurry-up-and-wait game. Which is tons better than the OH S*IT! game, which hopefully won’t be a big deal.

We’ll all be just fine, I’m sure :)

Congratulations Ladies!!!! How exciting! You have dreamed, worked, sweated, cried, gone on zero hours of sleep and the most important day of the rest of your life is staring you in the face! How could you not have nerves?! This is one of the most exciting, defining moments of each of your lives! I can’t wait (only 548 days to go-lol). I’m sure you will all look beautiful and radiant; I’m sure some things will go wrong, but I hope you won’t stress too much; I hope when you look back on your day in all the years to come you’ll remember how unbelievably happy and ecstatic you both were! Here’s to a life full of wonder and love!

Oh, how I wish I did not want to eat when I was anxious, nervous, scared (or sick, sad, sleepy, …). But I am a stress eater which is TERRIBLE when trying to fit into a dress and look your best!
