Prop It Up

March 25th, 2010 @ 10:27 am by Mrs. Pencils

The past few weekends, Mr. Pencils and I have been accumulating props for our fauxtobooth. After an hour in a party store, some time at my old standby Michaels, and many silly moments with fun hats later, we had this:

and these:

I love the eagle because that was Mr. Pencils’ and my mascot during college.

We also found an inexpensive frame, and one of our amazing friends who is a great budding photographer has agreed to man the booth for a while.

I can just see our guests donning these funny props and sharing their thoughts with us on soon to be purchases chalkboards.

Our next step? Get my engineer mom to figure out how to construct something to hold up the fabric, which is also yet to be purchased!

Any recommendations on props that you think could be fun for guests?

I love the masks! I think the prop selection is great. If you had to add anything else, perhaps boas? People seem to love a feathery boa.

One I went to had a pirate sword and eye patch. And a coconut bra. Those went over well.

Construct something out of PVC pipe to hold up a fabric curtain. Maybe get some Mardi Gras masks for the guests - the ones that you hold up with a stick and have feathers all over them. The dollar store is great for these kinds of things.

The photobooth was something i wanted more than anything. i must have missed the older posts, but how are you doing it?? I’d love to have a DIY booth, as my mom is a photographer and I’d have the equipment already!

I’d agree with the pvc piping would be a great idea to use

Miss Pencils, I found this PVC freestanding contraption that we are going to attempt to build. It looks fairly easy and better yet claims to be < $20.

Can’t wait to see how it all turns out!

I so love this idea of allowing the guests to pose with props! You have some fun pieces here :) Other things I’ve seen are umbrellas and pinwheels!

Ditto to amariem25, PVC piping is an awesome way to make a backdrop (that’s what I’m doing for mine!) :-)

We’re doing chalkboards too. Are you buying those or making them?

Since you’re doing a travel theme you could get miniture flags from different countries and other travel inspired things. Maps, vintage suitcases, spanish fans, etc

Ask your local event rental company if they carry something called pipe & drape. They normally come in 10′ sections and are 8′ tall. You can ditch their drape and make your own out of whatever material you want. It’s stand alone and really easy to put up. I work for a event rental company and it goes out all the time!

I’m still torn on props for our booth! It’s one more thing we have to cart out of our somewhat stickler venue (and we = day-of-gal ;) ), so I’m wondering if it’s worth the hassle.

Oh, and PS- the title of your post has somehow gotten that song from the 90s “Strike It Up” stuck in my head! LOL :)
