Mrs. Turtle's Picture
Mrs. Turtle, Central California Age and Occupation: 21, Art Student/Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 22, English Student Engagement Date: August 16, 2008 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Mr. Turtle's Grandparents' backyard, Arroyo Grande, CA About Me: I am a California girl who loves the beach and the mountains, but is quite satisfied living right in the middle where I can enjoy the best of both worlds. I am happiest when traveling to faraway places, wandering through museums, watching old movies, or baking up a storm. Mr. Turtle and I are high school sweethearts and fellow book nerds who both drive Mini Coopers and are most likely to be found browsing in antique stores. We're having so much fun planning our European garden wedding with a vintage twist and can't wait to share more of life's adventures together!
About Mrs. Turtle

I am totally obsessed with French style! This is definitely something I plan on incorporating into our wedding. I love studying eighteenth century French history, Rococo art and architecture, and nineteenth century Impressionist painting. As early as elementary school, I was decorating my room with pictures of the Eiffel Tower. I love hearing people speak French. I love pretending like I know how to speak French. If I could be anywhere in the world, some of my top choices would be wandering through the Louvre, sitting in a Parisian cafe, visiting Versailles, or finding treasures at a Parisian flea market. What I admire about French style is that it is ornate, airy, and pretty, yet aged and antique enough to not be too perfect.

If I could live inside a movie, it would definitely be Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette. The set, the costumes, the music, the colors; it’s like a dream world. I could watch it over and over again and never cease to be mesmerized. Okay, okay, I know… you get the idea!

I tend to find inspiration in movies, books, and paintings even more than in other weddings. I feel like there are so many details in these film stills that can be incorporated into weddings.

Have any of you found wedding inspiration in unexpected places or in a particular movie? Do share! :)

I love this as a color scheme, so romantic! Sofia Coppola is also my favorite. I am obsessed with anything she directs.

I am def having Sophia (in the bottle, not the can) at my wedding, er reception. Her champagne looks as though it would fit right in Marie Antoinette!

I adore this movie! I love the really quick shot of her shoe closet where she sneaks in a shot of chuck taylors…

that movie was cute :) But as a French person, it was a little lacking in historical accuracy ;) hahaha but I loved it anyways! LOVE it as an inspiration!

p.s. if you ever wanna talk about anything French, pm me (I am from Paris) :)

This is a *great* idea! I absolutely love the film Marie Antoinette… visually breathtaking! Are there any particular scenes or shots that inspire you? I love the scene with her & her friends by the water at sunset… and the scenes of her at her garden house.

My favorite era is the Edwardian one also known as “Belle Epoque” in Paris… and I love Paris too. I’d move there in a heartbeat LOL

Another period of time I love is the 40s because they remind me of my granny… she lived her life stuck in the 40s LOL She died when she was 90 and was still doing make-up, clothing and decor as if she were living in the 40s.

@jordynrose: There have been so many times I’ve wished I’d taken our wedding color palette from that movie. I’m dying to plan a party that’s light pink, seafoam green, robin’s egg blue, and gold!
@Kingcake: Oooh, you’ve made me curious! Do you like the taste of Sofia? I think the bottle is so cute, but have never tried it. I would love to have it at our wedding!
@Coccinelle: I know, I know… I am a big French history buff, so I ignore the inaccuracies and enjoy the movie for its stunning visuals! You’re from Paris? I would love to talk to you! We’re actually going there for our honeymoon!
@Miss Oyster: I just love it all! I think my favorites are the scenes her country house too! And of course all the detail shots of her clothes and shoes!

@Rosanna: I love that area too! I am an art history major and my emphasis is nineteenth century Europe!
@Theresa90405: You’re right! I love those plates! The totally remind me of the dishes in the Marie Antoinette pictures above! Jealous!
@Rosanna: Wow! What a gorgeous table setting! There are so many beautiful details to look at!
