Mrs. Pudding, Greater Toronto Area/Vermont Age and Occupation: 26, High School Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Computer Engineer Engagement Date: August 2008 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Catholic Ceremony, Cultural Hall Reception About Me: Quite literally a citizen of the world, I was born in Poland, grew up in Canada, and now live in the beautiful state of Vermont. I love reading historical biographies, multi-tasking, teasing my hair, and, despite my height, wearing high heeled shoes. I am the ultimate klutz with an uncanny ability to put on a graceful front. Mr. Pudding and I have been dating for over six years, and are very excited to finally merge our (very large) families. We are planning a traditional Polish-Catholic wedding that is anything but predictable.

Our “Wish Box”

March 26th, 2010 @ 9:49 am by Mrs. Pudding

One of the projects that I have been working on for the past couple of weeks is our “wish box”. What’s a “wish box”, you ask? Well, Miss Guinea Pig provided a great explanation of the concept here. Thanks, GP!

Wanna see my version? It makes me so freakin’ happy!

TA DA!!!

I found this beautiful box at TJ Maxx for $4.99. It was originally a kind of “rustic creme” colour, so I spray painted it a nice, crisp white. As is evident by the right hand corner of the box, I suck at spray painting. Mr. Pudding has promised to fix my botched paint job. :P

I tweaked a template I found on Creature Comforts to create my cards. I cut them down to size, and than backed them using the same paper and patterns as I used for our table numbers.

I made four different English cards. Each has a different “prompt”. I hope that this inspires our guests to be a little bit more expressive. I also made two cards in Polish, since we will have non-English speakers at the wedding. Mr. Pudding’s dad is also working on a card in French, in order to honour his French Canadian roots.

After the guests fill out their cards, they will simply place them in the box. I thought about putting in alphabetized tags, but then decided against them. I see no practical need to organize the cards in such a manner.

Again, the paint job sucks. I probably wouldn’t pass kindergarten with these skills. Don’t judge. I’m not quite sure how I will display all of the pieces yet, but I am loving the amount of texture and the pops of colour that the cards present.

All in all, I love the finished product. It was a relatively easy DIY, and I think that it will make a big impact on our reception space. I love that I was able to incorporate colour, sentimentality, and a nod to our heritage all in one project!

Have you decided on your “guestbook” yet? Are you going the traditional “book” route, or will you be doing something out of the ordinary?

Very cute! Our wedding will have a combo favor/wishing tree. When the guests walk in, the tree will have all the favors hanging from it in little organza bags. Next to the tree will be cards for the guests to write their wishes on. Then as each guest removes a favor from the tree, they replace it with their wish card. So the tree transforms from a favor tree at the beginning of the night to a wish tree at the end of the night!

Oh! I recognize those cuttlebug patterns. Nice use of them. Makes me want to flip through them!

We’re debating between two things:

1) For the traditional guestbook, one side will have lines for guests to write their names (to help us out on writing thank you letters later on) while the other side will be a picture of us with blank space framing it and guests can write their wishes around it.

2) Having a wish jar in which the guests will turn their escort cards over, write their wishes, and drop it in!

We are doing a wish jar for our reception. I love the idea of doing the textured/colored backers for the wish cards - that totally turns it up a notch!! I think I may have to make *yet another* craft store trip this weekend for scrapbook paper!!

So…what kind of backing is that? it looks thicker than cardstock…or I could just be blind! I love this idea!

Best box EVER!!! LOVE it! Going to TJ Maxx– I need a card box and you have totally inspired me!

p.s. I tried to spray paint a wicker basket and a wicker tray white, early in my planning process… DID NOT HAPPEN.

@SabrinaR424: I love that idea! So creative!

@Anchors: It is just regular cardstock, but the cards were printed on linen cardstock and lined with cardstock, so they are super thick. Does that make sense? Embossing the paper also gives it a thicker look.

I love it! Looks super cute :)

I’m thinking about doing these cards as well but having them at the tables. For our ‘guestbook’ I’m planning on creating a picture album on snapfish (got a giftcard from doing my registry at Target to Snapfish) of us and our guests and having them sign the pictures. Read about this in a magazine and loved the idea!

I love the colors :) I’m using the same though so I’m biased! HAHA I was wondering where you got the backing paper—so pretty.

@Curlysue: @Miss Trail Mix: It’s single coloured cardstock that I embossed using my cuttlebug!

We’re using a standard album (a square one) with room for memos next to each photo. We’re having a photo booth, so we’ll print out the pictures later and put them as best we can next to people’s well-wishes!

the contract of the white with the brightly patterned and textured paper is great! Can’t wait to see what you get back!
