Taking a Moment

March 26th, 2010 @ 1:28 pm by Mrs. Lace

Today, while I was surrounded by scraps of fabric, thread and beads galore, I got an IM from Mr. Lace. Now, he’s not really the romantic type, but I am, so that’s always been a struggle for us; for me, to not expect picture perfection like in chick flicks, and for him, to find opportunities to offer romantic gestures that are completely out of his comfort zone. So, amidst my frustration and stress in finishing up the hair flowers for my BMs so I could move onto the next project, his IM made me stop and take a moment.

I poured hours into our wedding website and although he liked it, he never said much about it. But his IM today said, “I just wanted to let you know that the wedding website is really great. You did such a good job on it. You made a good choice for the music and every time I come back and reread the stories, all these moments come to life again.”

Sigh.

So, while I was sitting in the middle of a huge fabric mess, I was reminded why I am going through all this trouble.

My FI is the same way. I am the romantic, he, not so much lol. He has been very mum about the wedding, but the other day I had left my Michael’s list at home and when I got back he had all the items on my list and was attempting to make some items. That made me smile because I realized that, although he may not say too much about the wedding, he does care.

very sweet! i’m not planning my wedding because that happened years ago already, but i’m my sister’s matron of honor, and i’m just about finished with her wedding website that i did as a surprise for her. i’ve been adding details about their them, their families, what they like to do together, etc, and i hope when i become nosy that it will remind them of their love for one another, and good memories they’ve had and will have.

that’s so sweet! I really need a moment like that! Between the stress of work, of my fiance being unemployed and spending a lot of weekends doing things that aren’t necessarily together, a little romantic gesture would be much appreciated! sigh…..

That’s very sweet!! I’ve taken up the habit of assigning FI certain tasks (like the website) so he actually understands and appreciates how much work goes into all this planning! He put so much work and effort into our website, it is amazing and now he totally ‘gets it’ that every little thing is actually a big deal!

@pvaulter718: Yes, that’s something we’re working on too. :)

@moderndaisy: that is a really good idea. We have so much invested into the wedding b/c we’re doing so much of the work. I recently gave Mr. Lace a to do list for things that I don’t feel like I need to oversee directly. Not that he isn’t great, but he’s just not on top of things the way I am. That’s really helped!

@clane616: Right? It kind of resets me and I’m energized to go again.

Awwww, so sweet! I had a moment like that yesterday actually when I told Mr. N that I bought his flip flops and he told me he’d be honored to wear anything that I got for him and it actually made him a little teary knowing that I am always thinking of him. So simple but so sweet.
