About Mrs. Turtle

Over a three day weekend in January, Mr. Turtle, my parents, my MOH, and I were able to go over to the coast and check a few big items off of our to-do list! We were very happy to check off the tasty little task of hiring our baker!

Meet Eclair Bakery, located in the charming downtown area of Arroyo Grande, California:

^ That is the owner, Jeremy. (Probably the coolest baker ever.)

Our tasting appointment was on a Saturday afternoon, when they were extremely busy, but Jeremy, the owner, still gave us a great experience and I thought that he presented the delicious cake flavors, frostings, and fillings he had on hand in such a cute way. There was plenty for all five of us to taste them all!

^ Mr. Turtle and I about to take our first bites

We mainly chose this bakery because it’s the only one Mr. Turtle has wanted from the very beginning. (I was only hesitant because I have a tendency to not book a vendor until I’ve thoroughly researched every other option in existence!) Eclair Bakery is located in The Village in Arroyo Grande, only minutes away from where we’re getting married. They specialize in French pastries and wedding cakes, and the place has the cutest, vintage-indie vibe to it. (There are little white chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and if you eat there, they have an adorable collection of vintage plates.) After tasting the cake, we ended up talking to Jeremy for almost an hour, not only about weddings, but just life in general.

Basically, I was thrilled to book Eclair Bakery right on the spot! They will be making us cute cupcakes in a variety of fun flavor combinations. In addition to classic flavors (chocolate’s my favorite!), they always seem to be baking up interesting new kinds of cupcakes like chocolate chip cookie, root beer float, blood orange, and plenty of vegan and gluten-free options. We’re also getting a six inch chocolate cake for the top layer of our cupcake tower, mainly so we can have a cake topper and the classic cake cutting moment!

What made our choice feel even more meant to be was when we realized that Jeremy the baker graduated from the same high school as Mr. Turtle and I did! This is totally random, considering that our high school is a three hour drive from the bakery and has an average graduating class of seventy people!

Don’t you just love those vendor meetings when you immediately click with the person and their whole business philosophy? Wouldn’t it be nice if this were always the case?

I think cake tasting was one of my most favorite things of wedding planning (we tried out a few places so DELISH)!

Our cake baker, is a woman who cooks out of her home, her cakes are delicious… while we clicked more with the second baker, their cake was too blah. It was like flavored pound cake with fillings - not what we wanted. So we went with the home made cake!

Oh, and by the way, I don’t think I’ve been any “sugar sicker” than the couple of hours immediately after cake tasting!!! Ha! I know what you mean about their being plenty! The home baked lady, had two 4″ square cakes in the flavors that we wanted to try there.. that’s a LOT of cake!!! Glad you found a place you love!

I do love when I immediately click with the vendor and his/her philosophy… it makes me tranquil because I think “all right even if something were to go wrong this guy/gal will know how to handle it properly”. And I instantly chill :)

Our cake baker got married at the same venue which is also pretty random since it’s not exactly a popular wedding spot. We had already signed the contract but that somehow made me feel great about it!

Yum, those morsels look tasty! And yes, I love when I can instantly bond with a vendor over something–just makes the process a million times better!

oh that’s great! i think sometimes, the relationship with a vendor is more important than the product/service even!

Ugh-I wish. Our baker was a terror. Our cake was very pretty and SO delicious though.

Michelle {Things I Love}

We just had our cake tasting last weekend, and she was all-business, very clearly knew what she was doing and extremely efficient. We were really pleased to choose her, but it would have been nice to have as great a connection as you did. :)
