My preliminary exams (otherwise known as: a gate-keeping mechanism, a necessary evil, an unnecessary evil, hazing for first year students who hold Master’s) are one week from today. All hands are on deck. Eyelids are being propped open by toothpicks at midnight, so they might read one more critical essay. Books are being consumed like Oreos. Alternate Plan B careers are being rapidly brainstormed by colleagues (culinary school? reality TV? baby-maker? brewmaster? cheesemonger? librarian?). Facebook, blogging, and television are out. Reminders to shower, exercise, and eat meals are in. But really, exercise is out. Let’s be serious here.
Mr. Potato Head is picking up all wedding slack for me while I prepare. Honestly, the wedding doesn’t exist for me until this test is over, but I wanted to pop into the ‘bee to tell you I’ll be gone for a week or so, but will be back soon!

You will rock the house! Pre lims are a necessary evil. I am due to take them in one year… ouch. Your workspace looks like mine during thesis writing!

I completely understand! Wedding stuff has been on hold until I make it past my final Thesis presentation (on Monday!). Can’t wait till its over!!

(Are yours such that the prelim is at the end of yr 1 and the comps are at the end of yr 2 then after it all you defend your dissertation? I’m starting to see that every program is slightly different that ours.)
